Hey all, please go to my soundclick page HERE and check out the song NewSoloSong. Its the first song I did on my own in a long time. I did all the writing, played all the instruments, did the recording, and mixing. Once again please let me know what you think of the song and the recording. Please let me know if there is anything that sounds bad or if there is anything you think should be changed as well. I am pretty happy with it, the only thing I dont like is the open hi hat sound. It is a bit harsh and im having trouble finding the right frequencies to pull out to tone it down. The hats just take up too much room too.

The guitars and bass parts were done through a guitarport and the drums I recorded onto my vf160. The guitars and drums have no eq work done to them at all except the kick i pulled some mids. The mix itself is compressed a little bit but thats it. Thanks everyone! :)

Listening through headphones. Like the sound of the guitar and drums - agree with you about the hi-hat. I'm not an expert, but would say you've done a great job with what you have so far. Don't know if you're planning to add vox or any other parts, but in my opinion it needs a little something more to maintain interest throughout the song. What you have now sounds to me like an awesome rythm/backing track, but it would be much more interesting with some cool vox (or a lead guitar part if you're trying to keep it as an instumental).

Nice to see someone from Richland here - I lived there for several years (graduated from RHS in '83).

Thanks for the listen, Im trying to improve my recordings as much as possible and I can use all the help I can get. I agree it needs something else. Its not meant to be an instrumental, I just cant sing and dont know any singers around here.

Thats badass man! I just graduated from RHS last year. Small world!

Nice. I liked the tune. Good idea for a song,..now you just need some vocs. I think the mix sounds pretty good,..although the kick is coming through too much on my pc speakers.
Great tune man.
The hi-hat didnt bug me at all.

Take 'er easy,..

I love the kick sound you've got. What mic did you use and how did you place it, may I ask? Overall mix sounds quite healthy and natural, not supermassive and overprocessed like many recordings in this genre. I like.

I really like the guitar sound you got here. Overall nice melody and structure. The hi-hat didnt bug me either. Great job!

Hi,
I'm listening on speakers through an amp. The kick sounds like it's someone flicking the foil seal inside a can of Milo. I'm surprise that it's popular. Is that sound the required one for the genre?
THe guitars sound well played but I have to say that the effct/tone/preset or what ever you used is pretty NWOBHMish.
THe riff seems familiar - have you based it on any thing in partricular.
I like the crashing chords & the cymbals.
I reckon the bass could do with more emphasis - maybe a mid boost.
Good mixing, good playing just a couple of sounds I can't get my muisc fan head around. It's not so much your stuff as my musical prejudices I think.
Good to hear you going so well with a solo effort.
Congrats.

I too enjoyed it greatly. Very well packaged.

But it does just cry out for some kind of lead part, a wailing strat and/or screaming AC/DC or Sabbath-ish vocal.

Excellent composition and engineering!

good job dude. just needs vocals. I love the guitar tone!. what setup did you use?
