Hey, I've been reading these boards for awhile to glean recording tips and gear recommendations. I'm curious to know what people make of some recordings I've done in my bedroom recently. By buddy writes/sings the songs, and I play the instruments and produce/engineer.

Thanks!

Oh, errr, sorry. Is a 256 bit-rate considered bad posting edicate for a five minute song? On certain songs I've had very audible quality problems encoding at 128, but maybe I just need a better program...

Also I could just be spoiled using the Company's T3 line...

Nice songs.

But you should try to get rid of the noise in "apocalypse".

Thanks Fimpen! Yeah, in fact I immediately sold the unit that was responsible for the noise on that song. It was a Presonus APC-22 compressor on the accoustic guitar track- I think the noise came from the internal power supply causing weird problems in the rack. And there was only so much plug-in denoising I could get away with while mixing. But now I'm home free with my 'Really Nice Compressor' from FMR Audio.

OK.

Does the RNC sound better than the APC-22?

The APC-88 is the same compressor as the APC-22 but in 8-channel version, right? I'm thinking about getting one (APC-88
) for live jobs.

Well, I find the RNC more versatile and better sounding, but a single RNC is only capable of stereo- not dual mono.

I imagine the Presonus one won't be so noisy in most setups as it was in mine, since Presonus' mid-range gear is pretty good (I love my MP-20 mic pre). Aside from my electrical interference problems, I'd definitely call the Presonus comp "transparent."
