My First Music Video

I want to shoot my first video. The thing is I know that I don't have the greatest hardware and software. Here is what I have:
-Canon Vixia HFR 500
-MacBook Pro with iMovie
-Very basic lighting
-Very basic tripod

Can I do it and still get a good product? Also what can I do to shoot the best quality with this camera? I am beyond a newbie and I know nothing at all about videography but the rule of thirds. And still I have never had to apply it. I am open to any and all suggestions.

Well, Cloverfield was shot as if it was a hand held camera and it earned $170 Million. Film friends of mine make their own video clips all the time with footage from Iphones, Gopro's, and hand held's, and they get national airplay here. If you can't get the quality of a feature film, make it arty.

I don't know that much about the software they use.

I think, just like with music, the content is more important than the tools. There have been many "No budget" videos that were hugely successful. . They were either quirky, original, exciting, or whatever other quality that made them work.

Van Halen's "Jump" video was one hand-held camera and was just the band playing. One room, no cutaways, and I think the whole thing cost them $600, or at least that was what we were told. No comment on the song or the video, but they were both hugely successful.

What you lack in equipment or budget, you make up for in creativity. For me, that's the most difficult part. You can do a lot with your mobile phone these days. Sony Vegas can be bought for little money and it has a lot of features. Not so sure about iMovie, but if you have nothing else, I'm sure it will work.

I saw one music video that was done with an iphone using stop animation. The guy took selfies and made it look like he was moving backwards through a city without moving his feet. Pretty creative.
