hello :D

we've just recorded seven songs with the band and they're all sat waiting to be mixed. I mixed one of them down (the link below) but I could really use some feedback from you walking music-brains before I start ploughing into the other six - or I'm gonna end up wasting a lot of my time.

You don't have to bother listening to the whole song just the first 30 secs or so will give you an idea of the guitar and drum sounds we got and what the singer's like.

Everythings pretty much dry except for a bit of EQ on the drums and that stupid reverb on the vocals that I'm rapidly thinking was mixed in a bit too high.

Help me?

What would you suggest on the vocals instead of that reverb? How can I make the kick stronger? How can I tame our drummer's crash cymbals? anything...

Drums sound a bit one-dimensional to me, especially when all the rest is going on. Singer is loud enough, too loud actually but still sounds as if he's singing in the next room and the the rest is even further away. Do you have the reverb on a send or is it on the vocal track itself. All in all ist still sounds a bit too muddy, so I suggest you start mixing it from scratch.

Joey :)

hi the reverb is on a send, we double tracked the vocals, mixed onea few dBs below the other and fed them both through the same stereo reverb.

Any ideas how I could make the drums more multi-dimensional then? I'm a bit hesitant to put any reverb on the drums since we recorded them in a steel-walled warehouse cos we liked the acoustics, but is was very echoey. I only panned the overheads to 60% left and right, would it be wise to pan them all the way maybe?

I like the song; it's catchy, and the drums have a good, driving beat.

I feel like the drums could be louder.
Around 3:40, it sounds like the vocalist really backed away from the microphone giving the vocals a weak and distant sound. Right before that, when he was really belting it out, it sounded really good. Maybe back off on the reverb when he's singing more softly and turn it up when he's belting.

hi guys thanks so much for the advice Steve I'm having another go at this over the weekend so I'll try that with the vocals and post the results

oh...and to answer your question our rhythm guitarist used 2 amps so we had those plus two of mine, then doubled-tracked everything so there are 8 guitars - the double tracks are fairly low in the mix though. Theres also 2 bass tracks one with fuzz and one without
