Sounds pretty damn good. Post what all you used in the recording. Mics, software, room type, etc.. I always like knowing what was used to record somes so I can compare to my set up. Well I know alot comes from knowing what to do with the stuff also. I new to the recording scene and have alot to learn.

The guitars sound AWSOME. The vocals sound good aswell but can stand out in the mix a little more. They can be a little brighter. All around though its a very good mix and a good song at that. Well done.

Dave

Needs some clarity in the bass but otherwise you've done a fabulous job.

Thx for showing your interest and for the comments.

After a day I find the bassguitar to be a tad loud.

Sounds great to me dude. It's a really cool song too. I'd like to know what your room is like, because I sure as heck don't get results like that out of SM57s on guitar cabinets.

Well the biggest lesson for me on guitars is TREBLE TREBLE TREBLE !!!
People tend to use too much treble on the guitars , and recording it where the cone meets the speaker = treble hell.
I almost forgot:
The VS100 Marshall on the 1960 cabinet was recorded with a Studio Projects C1 and not a SM57, maybe that contributes to the sound a bit.

I lift the guitars from the ground, to avoid reflexion.
The room is http://users.pandora.be/blor007/Studio/100_0902[1].jpg
Without the mess of course :D

Also not the guitar makes the guitar sound, the drums also make the guitarsound, by having enough clearness in the drums I also find my guitars to be clearer.

This mix is a bit too clear tough ;)

Vocals need to be louder. It has a nice analog feel, i just saw you mixed it out through a board. NICE. nobody does that, and wonders why their rock recordings don't sound good.

Actually this is all mixed digitally , I'm not a big fan of all the wiring :P

oh nice, fooled me haha. why do you have such a large board then?

Sidenote question here, how do you run all channels individually into your comp when the Fireface seems to only have 4 inputs?

I also do live PA gigs ;)

Mike

Fireface has 10 inputs:

4 pre-amps: OH + Room mic
channel: 7-8-9-10
2 pre-amps on my MR24 goes to the input of the fireface:
channel 5-6
2 pre-amps from my Gyratec preamps
channel 3-4 ;)

I take it we are in Europe, from the links you posted on equipment. :)

The centre of europe actually, the lovely Belgium :P

Good guess

Excellent guitar sound Blor, really captured the sound us guitar players drool over. Drums are equally nice...The vocals seem a bit low for me but not a big deal - my taste mostly. Very impressive mix overall.... Is this your band or are you mixing someone else's band?

:) :D :) :D

This is someone elses band, it is all recorded in one day and mixed the other day.

I still need to work somewhat on the hi-hat and the bassguitar, the fireface a/d converters really rock for guitars ;)

They're a good band aren't they. You did a superb job capturing their sound. I agree with rayc. The mix is fabulous

Thx for the positive comment Bull

Rayc I always like the bassguitar in your tracks, have you got any tips on improving the clarity?

I recorded it DI in a Gyraf Gyratec, the bass was an Fender Jazzbas (Mexican)With old strings.
Putting new strings on it might aid the sound, but if I start boosting highs the bassguitar interfers with the guitar. I really can't let any bass guitar come in the 1k-5k range. And it does not have anything above 6k then static ;)

Hi...just chiming in to disagree with the vocal comments. I think the level on them is fine, especially considering that just about any boost in the vocal is going to take away from a pretty perfect guitar sound.

Sounds nice.
I dont like the kick drum though.
I prefer to use a plastic beater head rather than a cotton one which I beleive you used. Sounds like there are too many kicks also.
Maybe cut out some fo the kicks to free up some space in the rythym.

Good stuff.

Eck
