My First Microphone???! =|

HEYA EYERYONE! :listeningmusic:

I've been a live performer for a long time but I'm new to recording! Recording in studio's is way above my reach! So I'm building a budget home recording studio!
I've arranged everything except the most important: Microphones!
I live in India so I dont have much to choose from. These are the list of microphones that are available, That I can afford and I've considered ---->
AT 2050
Blue Bluebird*
Blue Spark
Studio Projects-TB1*
Rode NT2-1
Studio Projects-C1*
Studio Projects-B3
AKG C3000*
CAD M179
CAD M9*
CAD Trion 6000
CAD e300*

[The ones marked by * are the ones which are difficult for me to afford but I *MAY* be able to. Depends. ]

I'm looking to record male vocals and acoustic guitar! I have a Yamaha Audiogram with Cubase AI Software.
I know I have to upgrade in future, But I want something that can still be useful to me in some way. As back up vocal Mic? Or maybe for recording acoustic guitars?

Genres I wish to record are Alternative Rock, Pop, Country and Bit of Rap and Singing [ Like Stereohearts- Gym Class Heroes Ft Adam Levine]

Can you please please please help me in choosing a microphone suitable to my needs? All help would be HUGELY APPRECIATED!

PS---> In case you suggest a microphone marked by * , Can you also suggest an unmarked microphone along with it? Also, I am seriously considering CAD M179 vs CAD Trion 6000. Any views on those? Which one would be better? Do tell!
 
I don't own any of those mics, but of the list you have I would likely pick the CAD M179. I only base this on the number of times I've seen this mic suggested in other threads and forums, good reviews, and as it is a multi-pattern mic it may be more useful for a variety of applications.

I've heard a lot about CAD M179 too! And I am having a tough time selecting CAD M179, CAD Trion 6000 and Rode NT2-A. =| All three of them are multi patterned! I've heard many great things about Rode NT1-A...Rode NT2-A is supposed to be the multi-patterned version of it with amazing reviews! My friends tell me CAD Trion 6000's a great microphone! It's new and hasn't got many reviews! I wish i knew which to select! =| Thanks for bothering to reply! =D Your opinion meant a lot! =)
 
Are any of those microphones on your list found used on your local ebay?
 
Based on everything I've heard and on my research I've zero-ed onto 3 microphones! CAD M179, CAD Trion 6000 and NT2-A. Any suggestions on which one's to choose? =/

Nah, I found them on the leading Pro Audio equipment store that caters to India.... =)
 
Looking hard around the net if it were I .....
Found the CAD Trion6000 with the spider clip, microphone cable and pop filter for $150.

You can't go wrong with a deal like that being included with a multi pattern microphone.



Mind you I have never had the pleasure of working with one but I have the other two which I enjoy very much.

I'm considering CAD Trion 6000. Yeah! I've found very good deals on It and CAD M179..But wanted to ask, How does CAD M179 sound with vocals? Is it good? Or should i choose the Trion 6000 and NT2-A..?? I've heard a lot of things on NT2-A and I like it! But it's little difficult for me to get at it...Just in case i cant, I want an alternative....I too can get CAD M9 and a CAD e300 or A Blue Bluebird if i push hard..And take a bit of loan from my friends...

Some places can give you information overload and forget what you were actually looking for or what your budget was.

It's a close call between the three.
I've said that I can find a new Trion with accessories for $150. here in the US

What is the $ amount in India for each of the three we are talking about here?

Sitting here having morning coffee did some more looking at the CAD Trion 6000. On CAD's own site the mic is not listed as a product, however if you Google the mic you can get to a CAD page that has it.

A few sites show the CAD Trion 6000 as discontinued.........

Makes me wonder if the mic had not been that popular and was discontinued and stores are selling what stock remains until sold out. Does not necessarily mean it was a bad mic, but maybe just not a big seller.

The CAD M179 has two features that may be useful that the Trion 6000 does not, a high pass filter and a 10db attenuator.
You'll likely want/need to get a pop filter which will run about $20, so add this cost to the price of a mic as well.

There's a deal offering Trion 6000, with Shock Mount, Pop Filter, XLR Cable and headphones around 375$. Same with the CAD 179, All accessories and a headphone at 375$. There's a Rode NT2-A Studio bundle with XLR Cable, Shock Mount, Pop filter and a professional DVD to be had for 400$. I can afford them all! Which one should I get? I already have a pop filter, headphones and everything...Facing a dilemma about choosing a microphone..I saw a video by a grammy nominated producer explaining the versatality or the NT2-A and how it sounds great on vocals. I'm looking for something that primarily records vocals and secondarily records acoustic guitars...I like the M179 a lot..Heard a lot about it....But My opinion of it is going down cuz i heard it sounds quite bland on vocals, Is that true? And As for CAD Trion 6000..They say it's bright..I dont know what that means.. =/ I've heard great thing's about all three of them...But wanted to seek expert advice..I'm highly inclined on Rode NT2-A.Please recommend!

There are quite few that I have read reviews on or heard,

The AT 2050 would give good results, basically a multi pattern version of the AT2020 / AT2035
Studio Projects make very good products and will also turn in very good results
I like AKG mics but the C3000 is not one of the favourite ones out there, the C2000 and C4000 are a lot better by reports.
I don't know much about the blue mics and the CAD mics but they have a lot of people that like them.

My pick from experience is the Rode NT2. I have a lot of Rode mics and I use them on everything, I have an original version of the NT2 and it was my main mic for years until the mic locker got bigger, the NT2 is a very good microphone. IS it the NT2 or the NT2A you are looking at? The NT2A also has Fig8 pattern selection as well as cardioid and omni.

Well the people that posted that video may be a bit biased toward the NT2-A and want to make it look good RØDE TV - YouTube

Interesting on the pricing you have. In the US the Rode NT2-A goes around $399 just for the mic. The CAD M179 can be found for $130 for the mic.

With the price difference so little between the NT2-A and the M179 for you I would be inclined to go with the NT2-A, partly as I have an older NT1 that gets used occasionally and I can't say anything bad about it.

You can't really do studio vocals with a SM57, so I would get the NT2A, you can record the duel one at a time or if you are really want to be brave you can record the duet in fig8 with one person facing each side of the mic like they would have done in years past.

Ok sir, I'll do that....But one more thing...Is it better to record duets separately in separate tracks...or using fig 8 pattern and recording once? <--That's what i want to do..Just wanted to know it's disadvantages!

If you can do them separately on separate tracks, easier to fix mistakes and also fix volume / eq issues. However there may be a certain magic doing them together if both singers are really good.

Where in India are you? I am going to India (3rd time) late November I love India.

I am continuously on the go...Parents are transferred after every year or 2..Currently I'm in Bhubaneswar, Odisha! =) Where will you be coming? =) Good to know you love India...I know it's a small place and all..But I absolutely love it... =)

Oh! If I choose to record 2 singers in the fig 8 pattern with one microphone....Do I have to use 2 pop filters? One at each side of the microphone?

My friend and I record lots with the NT2A and we have been very happy with the results.

Yes 2 pop screens, or you could use the foam wind sock, I think one come with the mic, but generally it's better with 2 pop screens.

This trip to India we are going to: New Delhi, Bodhgaya, Varanasi, Agra, Amritsar and Mcleod Ganj (we spend most of our time there), we will be in India for 6 weeks.

All good mics, but if this is your first and you are on a budget I would suggest the Samson CO series. Bench comparisons rated them really high and I've had really good luck with them. Otherwise start with a Shure SM 58. Step up to the others when you can afford it. Most all the recordings people make at home today are on the SM58. Good Luck,
