Cuzzin' Brucie, I had to listen to this song 3 times! Lemme' tell U
sumthin', home-gurl has skillz!!! Beautiful production!
4 1/2 stars (would have gave it 5, but I'm jealous!!:D )

Thoroughly enjoyed it!

BTW,does she have an older sistah who sings like that!!?

I meant I could still hear it when playing it again.

I dont know how that last line was meant to sound, but I wasn't having a go at you Bruce:-)

No worries LongWave - I misinterpreted your comment!

But anyways - I still "can't" hear it!! ;) :D

Awww shucks, Q.... *shuffles feet - slightly embarrassed*

(and no - I have no idea if she has a sister or not! ;) )

:D :D

B.B.,

Excellent tune. I really liked it. The vocals seemed to get a bit loud at times, but It's probably supposed to be like that.

Thanks for sharing it, I love the part around 2:40, almost tragic.

The piano reminds me a bit of "Moonlight Sonata", excellent. Beautiful voice, I'm not a pro or anything, but I would call this "top notch."

Just being redundent Bruce, the fact that you hit the ground running on this one (read 3 hour tour) and the music bed was imposed on you, fantastic job!

fun to do some stuff you don't normally do...eh?? ....hey, how 'bout some *good* Christian rock next time :D ?......

I put a LITTLE BIT of stereo hall/cathedral type reverb during the 2nd listen, and being the reverb freak I am, liked it a tad better... Seemed to make it more "realistic", as it kinda has that opera[tic] feel to it too. The piano sound doesn't bother me as much as the repetitive nature of the triadic chording of all those inversions....but hey..getting paid for doing something you enjoy...and it came out good too! Way ta go...

Actually I matched the reverb to what was on the backing track pretty closely, and I liked the levels I gave it - a reasonably natural balance.

Personally, I tend to use as little as possible that gives a natural sounding result. I'll set it to where I think it should be, then back off just a tad...

But hey, that's just me! ;)

I agree with that philosophy, Bear.

That quote reminds me of what my dad used to say when I would ask him how much to tighten a bolt while working on a car... "Just tighten it up until it strips, and then back it off a turn". =)

Bruce,

Ed mentioned the piano has a vintage sound. Whatever it is, I find it difficult to hang with. The pianist's bouncy, loose playing is just way to rubberband band sounding for me. Luckily the recording is washed out enough to make the bounciness at least tolerable. Can't you convince her to have that recorded again with a better pianist?

I really like the vocal sound you captured, but I think the production is a bit to minimal for her singing style. She's good, especially for 15, but like others have said here she's not going to be selling records to the classical music crowd. Her pipes don't have the authority normally expected of solo classical artist and her style is definitely pop. So, I think for the audience that's really going to dig her, a more synthetic "big production" sound would go over better than a minimal "live recording" classical music sound.

If you go for a bigger sound, then you could even chorus up and spatially expand the choir a tad. Anyhow, this is the direction I would go with her.

Nice.:)
