OK, so if anyone read my old post about my new shed, i mentioned troubles i had with lighting... while playing in there (in the pitch black) i came up with a solution.

When i placed the LED light from my phone underneath the drumskin, it illuminated the entire skin as if it were a glowing pad. I was thinking maybe buy 5 ultra-bright white LED's and connect them to a largeish battery with a switch and put the LED's under all the skins on the kit.

Not only would it enlighten me as to where the kit actually is in the room.. but it would also look soooo f!@%ing cool.

Should also be a really simple job to make a circuit for 5 LED's a switch and battery, right?

Let me know what you think...

You can get LED's for automobiles or computers by the tons on ebay. Every concievable configuration and color. Use a computer powersupply or a 12v wall wart or power supply with a 1k resistor inline to the LED. I'm lighting my whole studio using these things. Very cool effects. Plus, theres all kinds of car decorative lighting kits that use LEDs. Look here.

Wow Josh, nice idea. I might have to steal it for playing live. Amagine it, all dark, with this glowing kit in the middle. Only thing is, i don't have clear heads. Aww well I'll wait till i have the money to replace them. :D

Extreamly simple, and yes it'd be best to have a resistor inline with them, LED's come in all varieties depending on what power source you have avaliable and it should be as simple as soldering some (7?) wires. But, as for mounting them you are going to want the kind with a panel mount base, ones made for PCB mounting would require like hot glue or something.

It looks much better with white skins, it lights them up like a panel!

As for power, i was just thinking a few large sized batteries should last months to just power a few LED's.

I might just use tape to stick them to the inside of the drum, they wont be visible so I dont really mind!

i saw a drummer for a doom metal band playing with a red floodlight under his kit. he had a clear snare drum with a clear head and it was awesome. not to mention hes easily one of the best metal/hardcore drummers in florida...

If you go with that LED idea, post some pics. Sounds koolz.

Make sure you turn the flash off on the camera though first... :D
