so the moniter gets really "wavy", if that makes sense - when people are playing distorted guitar (loud, yes.) in the same room as it. So whenever I record it the screen goes funky during the recording..this is wierd, why does it do it? is it terribly bad for it? haha.

Damndest thing I've ever heard !
Sure its not your head vibrating ?
Or perhaps an eletrical issue

you have a flat moniter with a trinitron screen?

It's got something to do with the aperture grill (did I spell that correctly?) I have a 21" mitsubishi diamondscan and my friend has a 17" viewsonic..they both have the flat trinitron screens and when we listen to our music real loud the moniter does the aforementioned "wave" at us.

I believe this is just normal for this type of screen :P

turn your damn music down!! :D
just kidding. I remember when i put my amp right next to my monitor and the whole scrren went green and pink. Now i Know that couldn't have been good for the screen.

Well degauss might help your green and pink screen.

And magets in speakers will pull the color out of a tv or monitor. Always keep speakers far away.

As for the monitor shaking. Mine does that too and yes it is a flat screen. I think it is safe to say that it's not a good thing. Even if your screen is a groove machine, get off the acid and turn it off.
hehe
