Ok this might be quite a bit to ask but can someone please help me ??

I have a pentium 4 2.8 Cubase sx2, Guitar pod xt, Delta 66 with omni studio and a audigy sound card that I use for midi input and would like to use the soundfonts as well.

I have read the Cubase manual every night for the last fortnight, read my delta 66 manual, read the omni studio manual ... and the bottom line is ... What the F*&(*^^ heck does it all mean !!

Input, output, routing, AISO, patching, channels ... bla bla bla It has just gone over my head and I just don't understand it. I have looked on many web pages and It just all starts at the deep end.

Do I plug my guitar into my pod xt and then inot the omni studio ? or do I plug into the omni and send to my pod xt ?

I have managed to get cubase to record my guitar but i have to have the monitor button pressed on cubase to hear what i'm recording, is this correct.

On a previous version of cubase i could select what channel i wanted to record on from the delta, i.e channel 1 or 2 or even both.

It seems the more I try to learn the more confusing it gets. I am very computer literate and understand computer lingo but am struggling to understand Music lingo. If someone shows me then I take it in straight away but trying to read and visualise it just does my head in (it's like trying to picture all 64 squares of a chess board in your head at once).

If anyone has this setup or an understanding of this setup please can you tell me what i plug in to what ?

Like guitar into pod xt, outputs to omni and audigy out to omni in and omni out to speakers (from what one of the many outs from the back of the omni).

whats the difference between monitor out and mix out if both are 2 channels ?

I hope one day to look back at these questions and laugh at the fact I had to ask them. At the moment the learning curve seems a bit too steep !!

Many Thanks for reading ... Smeghead (how I feel at the mo!)

Ok, to record your guitar with the pod, you need to plug your guitar into your pod, then into your soundcard. You do need the monitor button pressed on Cubase to hear what your recording. On each Audio channel within Cubase (1, 2 etc) you need to route it to the channel you are recording onto on your soundcard. bring up the mixer in Cubase and at the top it should say " IN 1" or, if your recording in stereo, " IN 1+2". The number basically determines which channel you are recording into on your soundcard.

So, if that doesnt make sense, you need the following

Guitar > Pod > Channel 1 (for example) on your soundcard.

Cubase > run you mixer, ensure the track you are using is on IN 1 > Ensure the monitor button is pressed in.

That should work for you. Hope that helps a little!

Good luck!

Thanks for reply, sorted most of it out now, although it never showed channel 3 & 4 from delta 66 in cubase. I had to add it as another vst bus before I could access it.Also I can hear instuments without pressing monitor icon on cubase now (although I still press it). I also run the soundfonts through the Omni Studio and record them as a wave rather than midi, seems to work o.k although I miss the quantize. Just got to learn to play all the instruments now !!

Thanks for reply, much appreciated.
