Lemmie know what you think of 1978... international anthem is my other recent one. I recorded and produced this band. I'm also curious about the comparison of the master to the premaster... I think this is by far my best work. thanks for listening!

c'mon... free license to tear it apart-- engineering AND production... does it need more cowbell? some analog synth? HARP? what?

Hi

I listened to 1978 and it's pretty good. I think the mastered version is better, it has more high end. I think the bass is not present enough. You should try to use real bass for that song, it's more difficult to play but it will give a new dimension to the song.

Okay, this sounds good even though I don't like this type of music. :D
However, I agree that the bass is weak. I would want to hear more bass in that tune. I may be off base for this kind of music, but I think it needs more low end to fill it out.

Mix sounds good, but some of the effect noises are a little processed sounding. Sound kinda cheap if you know what I mean. Did you use Fruity Loops at all?
Yeah the master sounds better. Good job.

It sounds good, you guys can sing well, but... when the song kicks in it gets gay... for lack of a better word, but thats just my opinion. just sounds to weak, what i would do is 1/2 the guitar leave the sample, and keep on that down laid back line it was on when it started.

Soundwise is great, the mastered version is stunning. However, in my opinion the guitars could use a little reverb and the drums could be a little more dynamic..bass drum could be a little dirtier too.

Great Job though.

Tace care,
J

I like it. I think the vox are fighting with gtrs alot IMO but I still think it sounds pretty good.

slightly action action ish
it feels like it needs something...
sounds good though.. 95% there :)

Wow - this sounds great! I would have liked it better if my speakers didn't keep spitting at me though... the little synthy clicky rhythm going in the background I mean. It sounded too harsh, almost like it was clipping, and it distracted me from the rest of the music. I liked the idea of it and the rhythm of it; I just didn't like the actual sound of it - maybe that's just me though.

Amazing how much the Mastering souped it up, although the premaster mix was pretty darn good IMHO. Did you master it yourself or send it out?

:)

I liked the pre-mastered version better. The vocals are excellent on this, especially the female singer, who I think should be brought up more in the mix. Don't care for the overly prominent synth tracks throughout - especially the metronome tick mentioned earlier - and there's another synth motif that's high pitched and goes on seemingly endlessly that I find annoying. The mastered version sounds over limited IMO. It does bring up the female voice a bit - but that could just be done with the mixing.

I agree with that entirely. For what my opinion is worth: the woman's vocals are great, but I would lower the volume on the man's. With lowered vocals I think the track would sound more lo-fi, which is fitting for the style of music. And, the song is very good.

I agree, the synth motif sounds bad. Too loud and too harsh sounding i think mostly in the high frequencies. It must have been a digital synth right? EQ out some of those high frequencies(there seems to be a very specific range where it sounds like its distorting or something) in that recurrent synth part and you'll have a good song. IMO right now it's tough to listen to but only because of that synth part, the rest sounds great.

Oh and maybe female vocals up a little, or less masking so the female vocals cut through a bit more.

i'm not really into music like this, but International Anthem sounds like a pretty cool song. the synths are a bit harsh like people have said before, but maybe harsh is the sound you were going for on synths like this? it almost seems deliberate. the vocals sound good, and everything sounds well mixed to me. maybe a bit too much reverb on the backing vocals at times. otherwise, good work.

Nice Wesley. It has a 1979(Smashin Pumkins) flavor to it aye. The mastering took care of some of the volume fluctuations but also brought out more of the click, which basically just has to go especially in the silent passages. You could back off on the limiting some but that's sorta giving it the pumpkin flavor so... Great job!

first off: THANKS! I really appreciate all the responses... this isn't a final mix, but quite close... and I do think it's the best i've ever done.

The excessive reverb patches on some of the BG vox on international anthem are very intentional...

All the electronic stuff is on a stereo track together, so I can't edit things like click volume or synth timbre without messin' everything... hopefully I can get my hands on the orig tracks so I can edit in there, we'll see... we'll see...

I will probably bring out the drums a bit more, I really like the sound of them.

guitars will recieve some reverb most likely, but who knows!

I'll probably throw in a growly (400 hz edgy) bass to fill out that range a bit, too.

Possibly some retakes in the Vox, and i think a bit stronger compression on the male vox and possible uppin' the levels on the female vox (she is, ironically, the QUEITEST singer i've EVER delt with... but also probably the best initial tone, too.)

any other suggestions?

i dont usually listen to this type of music, but to me this song sounded really good, sounded very pro like, very nice job man!!!!

I absolutely LOVE the song. Some of the synth parts sound a bit too cheesy compared to the overall seriousness of the song. And the female vocalist has one of the most beautiful voices I've ever heard. At first it, the song sounded very Kraftwerk-ish. If you're gonna keep the electronic bass, try to make the part a bit more than repeated root notes, as it really weakens an awesome song. Also, the electronic drums at 2:21 don't sound too great. Maybe keep the acoustic drums there? Keep up the good work!
