I could use a little advice.

I want a decent mic for under $1000 to record vocals and accoustic guitar into Logic Audio Platinum. For the present I'll be using the phantom power on the Aardvark Direct Pro digital converter instead of a real pre-amp. (Can I expect that to work? I know it's not pro.) I already have an sm58.

I want a good condenser, but I have this idea that I need "warmth" to counteract the digitosis of the DAW environment.

My main candidates so far are:

mkl101

Marshall mxlv77

AT 4060

TLM 103

Thanks much.

AT 4033 into a Peavey VMP-2. It's a good mic for acoustic guitar and vocals and the Peavey would give you the tube-ification you desire. $1000

Rode NTK $500

Normally, I would have to agree with wide on this one, but the v77 is on sale for $300 at 8thsteet.com so it is an absolute imperative that you must get it. And yes, I am warming up to become a Marshall plant.

What is an mkl101 ?

chessrock- have you seen the Aphex 207 dual-channel tube preamp yet ? I read a favorable review a couple of days ago and it mentioned a retail price of $650. Looks interesting.

mkl 101 is an Octava tube mic. restored russion technology. Some people seem to think it's pretty great.

Do you remember where you saw the review? I'm looking forward to the new Summit Audio one, personally. Should be out in a few weeks.
