mxl990 for vocals and guitar

Just got a 990 and have found a lot of sibiance with my vocals. Is there a proper way to use this thing and reduce the s's?

Also, what set up (positioning) should I use when recording a 6-string guitar straight to the 990?

Position the mic at nose level, then angle it down slightly toward your chest. That will only help a little. The other is to tone your 's' and 't' during your tracking. It's a skill that you'll need to work on a bit. Then, you can run your vocal track thru a de-esser if you still have problems...a decent freebie that comes to mind is SPITFISH.

I have a 990 that I use on vocals. Try a few different placement positions. I get my best results placing the mic at or slightly above nose level. This also forces me into a posture in which I'm projecting at a slight upward angle which helps open my pipes up a bit more.

Also use a pop filter (which you should use anyway to protect that mic) and a de-esser, which I think is basically an automated EQ funtion that removes some of the high high's. (Someone please correct me if I'm wrong here.)
