Try looking at a MXL V67g instead.

v67g = v63m + transformer

The MXL v63m is very similar to that v67g, since they both have the same
capsule. However, the v63m is a "transformerless" mic, whereas the v67g
has a "transformer coupled" circuit.

The tranformer adds a bit of "mojo", but the v63m has the same sound,
underneath.
