Hmmmm.... maybe.

I did the gtr pedal mystery box. Picked up a Klon. I'd hoped for the Foxey tone box but the Centaur showed up - so I bought a Foxey tone box anyway. It's an excellent gtr pedal.

I don't know - what are the odds you'll get something valuable above the $250? 1 in 3?

I've read that the last time they did the "mic" mystery box - almost everyone received the least expensive/quality "jr" mics. I have no idea if that's true or not. I doubt they publish what all went out exactly.

Not that it matters - but I decided to opt in because I entered a December song/recording contest and thought that I would anonymously donate a microphone to the grand prize kitty of the contest. I figure - if I get a mic I really want - I'll keep it and donate a mic I currently own and can part with - and if I get a mic that I already own or don't care for - I'll donate that. So it's a win-win for the contest.

A few years ago, I would have taken a chance, but right now I've got more mics than I need, and seem to be recording less than 5 years ago. I've already got the 47jr, don't need another. Recent times I've pulled out the NT1, P-420 and even my MK300. I used my two SP-B3s last July.. still good mics 20 years later.

Good Luck Porter! Hope this time you get one of the good ones, like a FenTone pair or an 87R2 at least. A CX12 would be excellent. I read some good things about it.

Thanks - I'll report back. I just bought a mint used 87R2 earlier this year. I'm kinda hoping for the CX12 or 251.

100%. The cheapest eligible mic is $299.

I did this last year, figuring I could use another mic or two since my locker is very focused, and if the worst case was I got one of their $299 Jr series mics, that was still a fun purchase, I might get something useful, and whatever I got, as long as it wasn't a WA-14 (since I already have a pair of sE4400ac-414 style mics), it would be useful.

Reader, I got a WA-14 🤣 Ended up giving it to my dad after shooting some A/B comparisons with the (more expensive) 4400a on acoustic guitar, and since it really was a pretty good mic all things considered, grabbed one of their WA87s a few months later on a factory seconds sale. I have no idea how it compares to a real Neumann, but it sounds nice on an acoustic and was a killer voiceover mic, in the limited time I've worked with it.

Last year's thread, which devolves into mostly Rich and I talking about how best to do comparison videos.

Sadly I.. well It means I will keep using my MD441 for the foreseeable future.

There are international shipping brokers who forward it to you. If you are inclined to do so.

The Beak, is here, for you. If you need me to. I would.

Probably too late, anyway, this is a limited time thing.

I have experience with two of their mics now, and while I'm sure a real C414 or U87 would be nicer, they were both still objectively nice sounding, usable mics.
