Musicians Friend has them on sale for $69.99 so I ordered one last night.

From my understanding it has the same transformer, ribbon motor etc. as the R-144...It's just the R-40 is a Musicians Friend exclusive...on another forum someone mentioned that the R-40 has the screen modified (some inner screen stuff removed) which opens up the mic for a little more high end?

Anyone have one of these and what is your opinion of it?

I'm sure I'll find some uses for it...for 70 bucks.

I like mine for what it is ..... sounds good on a guitar cab.

Thats what I was thinking. I'll be using it with an ART MPA Gold preamp and the variable impedence on the preamp might help me dial the mic in for something.

Yup and I got mine second hand for half price! It was worth the investment.

No complaints for $69.99! I Haven't messed with it too much. I have a test track that I've run vocals through different mic's for comparison sake. It sounded decent on my vocal. I set it up and test it at different proximity, front, back, using compression, EQ etc. The variable impedance on the MPA Gold makes alot of difference...can dial in some decent sounds. I can't wait to try it on a few guitar amps and cabs.
