I would highly recommend using a triggered gate setup with the
MXL2001/Tom Tom recording setup though.
1.Stick a cheap trigger pad (pintech) to the shell of the drum.
2.run that trigger into the sidechain of a noise gate.
3.run the mic to a phantom powered pre, then to the in of the gate, finally run the out to your soundcard's input.
This is a good technique to use for heavy cymbal bashers.
If youve got a tasteful dynamic player you may not need it.
