Must Have VST plugins for starters

I have been playing music for many years.. but am very new to recording /mixing stuff on my PC.

My question; For a starter...

1) What are the Must Have VST plugins ?

or

2) What are the most commonly used VST plugins ?

Usually the ones in the DAW are enough to start with. The most used are probably compression, EQ, Limiters, Delay, Reverb, and thats about all your really need. There are more high end plugins but usually the ones in logic, cubase, pro tools etc. are enough to start.

Lots of free goodies to play around with. But, really like JG said, your daw probably has a great place to start

I started with the free bundles with Native Instruments - think they have got a Komplete starter package which includes Kontakt Player which has loads of stuff. Check out their website under products/free stuff.
