I'm a newbie, I'm not afraid to admit it. I wanna learn all about music theory, because I know theory is critical in music. I'm not an owner of a piano or keyboard, or any musical instrument. But I'm buying something soon, and its most likely gonna be a keyboard or piano (Triton, Karma ETC). I would really like to learn about all of this, well some of it before I start playing again. I know theres alot to learn about piano, but I'm dedicated & ready to train.

I'm just looking for links, tips or suggetions. Anything that I can benefit from. Thanks, I appreciate it alot. Peace.

I don't know what you plan on doing musically but, if you're starting from scratch, there are lots of ways to go about learning to play an intstrument.

http://www.gopiano.com/

after a one second search of google, this site turned up for free online piano lessons. don't know what it's worth but it's a start.

for guitar, I would look to

http://www.guitarnoise.com

It's a bear going through lessons at first, especially if you're particularly proficient in other things. It's a humbling experience but ultimately fulfilling. Nevertheless, keep the chin up and keep it fun for you.

Great!

Thanks Stone!

I'll look at those links, I'll do a search on Google later also. Thank you for looking out, I appreciate it. Musically, I want to produce & play all of my music (hip-hop, r&b, soul). Thanks again SP, Peace.

Piano lessons are a good start. I would enroll in college courses for your music theory.

It's tougher to learn theory on your own than it is piano.

I had been playing for years before I took music in college. The theory and composition classes were real eye-openers.

You'll learn a lot of stuff and you'll know why the music sounds the way it does.;)

Sennheiser,

Thanks Sennheiser!

But theres a small catch with me, nobody plays piano from where I'm from. Also, college is still quite a way from where I am. I'm 15, dropped out last March in 9th grade & I just enrolled this year. I'm working hard now, but courses like that are a long way from where I am presently. Thanks anyways duke, Peace.

Hi East Villian,
Since you want to learn Music Theory, a book I would like to recommend Is " Music Theory Made Easy" By David Harp. It is a book that I have used, that helped me alot. It has plenty of Information, and easy to understand. If you Buy this book, you won't regret it. It will be money well spent!!!

a totally agree with Senn. Stick with things til you get to the college level, with music at least.

I had played guitar for seven years and not a lick of piano by the time I entered college. Afterwards, I can tell you I feel comfortable with anyone on stage playing either. Now, I'm not necessarily better or even as good as some of the people I'll play near but I always know what they're doing and can contribute my share.

No matter what kind of music you play, an education in theory opens doors on terms of where you can take a song. It allows you to write more interesting pieces in your genre and communicate with other musicians more efficiently. You know what I mean if you've had to describe a beat (aka time signature) by telling the drummer to go; bummp ba bump ba bump, bump BUMP!

Good luck again.

Interesting..

Thanks Enuff, I'll look into that book as soon as possible.

Word up SP, thanks again man. I'm well aware that theres alot of musical programs & diplomas out there, I'll eventually get to them in the future of my career. I understand everything your saying, I appreciate it too. I'll be sure to take all of the advice & tips, and I really am starting to like this board, alot. Thanks again, Peace.
