Hello,

My friends and I are looking for music editing software that will allow us to record on and edit the same project individually from our respective locations (we live in different cities). We all use audio interfaces and have experience with programs like logic, fl studio and garage band. In the past, we tried having one person with the master version that would insert the various recorded samples that the others sent, but it proved to be a hassle.

Is there anything out there that would allow us to do this?

Everybody should use the same DAW and work on the project one at a time. The last one to add something can post the project file and any new audio files on a file sharing site like Dropbox. The next one to work on it just downloads the new project and audio files.

I found this option by googling "Cloud-based DAW" - but I presume you would have done that yourself by now.

If that's not what you're after (and I have no idea how/if it works), then boulder's solution is what you'd generally find recommended around here.

I had a bit of a read on that site... if you want to use anything but their stock VST plugs, you're screwed....

dropbox is very helpful for coordinating projects with members around the world. I would say everyone get dropbox and you'll be able to near instantly transfer files to each other.

If you install Google Drive on your PC, you can work on the project directly in the Google Drive folder (and each collaborator can do the same), then each PC will automatically up and download files as they are changed/created/deleted. Problem is you'll each have to close and reopen the DAW when someone else is working on it and make sure the synchronisation has completed before opening the project.

I'm sure I saw something about a Cubase online collaboration tool many years ago - don't know if that sort of thing is still available.
