Hey all...a little new at this....could you all give me the best option with what I have..

I've got:

Pentium III 640MB
Cool Edit Pro
M-Audio 1010
Yamaha MG12 mixer
a bunch of mics and instruments

Now how exactly do I configure the M-Audio/ yahama mixer relationship in order to multitrack record on Cool Edit with as many tracks as I can?

I know it's a little vague of a question but basically I'm not understanding how I connect the mics and inputs into my mixer in order to connect to the soundcard while still recording the tracks to seperate tracks on Cool Edit.

Thanks in ahead...sorry I'm still learning.

you can record as many tracks as outputs on your mixer. I have a mixer with four outputs. I needed six, so i but another mixer. All and all you plug the mic into the mixer mic input. You plug the output of your mixer Right and left to you sound card, input 1 and 2.

Arm the track you want to record on. Make the input on the track be INput 1. Arm another track and have the input on that track be input 2, and so on and so forth.

You can only record as many tracks at once as you have inputs on your sound card. You could have 8 channels on your mixer with only a stereo input or two mono inputs on your soundcard and you can record only 2 tracks.
