OK, so I'm not really new here, or stupid. But none of the forums really fitted the description of this thread so I was looking for some first hand advice. Basically, me and a friend have been looking at Multitrack recording. A VS-1680 that we really wanted dissapeared from the site it was on, and we were considering other possibilities for recording like this. What produces the best sound? (Hopefully has preamps). Can anyone give me some advice on the best of the rest? Thanks!

Hail ConopuS friend of Conan:]

I would guess that anyone who owns a tracker and likes it would tell you that "it" is the BEST!

From my ears, I like what my Yam 2816 delivers in sound quality.

Others will certainly support their platforms: Roland, Korg, or Akai, etc.

I have two outboard mic preamps: once in a while, I use the preamps on my 2816 but "rarely."

Most preamps on most units that are SIAB's are mediocre to fair.

But, then, what is it you are after in sound quality?

The better you want it, the more $$ you have to put into it.

So, I say look around and try to demo units before you drop your pezzutos. And, you need a good mic or mics and preamp and cables, etc. Yada, yada, yada.

Green Hornet :D :p :p

CanopuS, how many simultaneous inputs you looking at, or total inputs. I like my tascam 788 a lot.

and by the way, I fixed my tune in the clinic for any listener. sorry about that.
