Multitrack Mixers/Interfaces

Okay so I'm a COMPLETE newb at all this and you've probably got these questions a lot but still!...


I play drums and was looking for a mixer/interface that records separate channels and plays back individual tracks on the software... eg snare, toms and kick recorded simultaneously and edited separately on say... GarageBand...

I'm hearing a lot about some mixers doing this but only playing back in 2 stereo channels?.. I think I heard this about Alesis Multimix, but I'm not sure hah


Budget is anywhere up to £400... willing to go a little higher

Alsooo... Is a mixer even essential? Is it only just to add EQs that could potentially be done on the computer? I mean, could I just get an Audio Interface and EQ everything on the computer... I'm not entirely sure about the differences between an Audio Interface and Mixer :/

The Zoom R16 is a decent choice. It has 8 XLR/1/4" combo inputs and will stream 8 channels of audio to the daw of your choice. It has insertable FX and eq available and comes bundled with Cubase LE. It will also function as a 16 channel stand alone multitrack recorder. Ive had one for almost a year now and it's performed flawlessly.

i would suggest the M-audio 8r http://www.thomann.de/index.html?partner_id=97926&page=gb/maudio_fast_track_ultra_8r.htm whitch has 8xi/o and 8 octane mic pre's and a low latency monitoring.

Muto, PreSonus ect are close to your price range.

And yes you can EQ threw your DAW once you pick one out.
