just getin started in recording.most recorders user reviews say need to pre amp mics and guitars.should i just buy a tascam and some pre's or maybe
a fostex . or other?i dont know much bout digital and need a little advice

Hello mate,

Basically depending on which route you want to go down (I'm guessing multitrack recording instead of actual computer recording), you need to get a rough budget together.

http://www.dolphinmusic.co.uk/page/shop/flypage/product_id/7910 < This Fostex multi is nice, comes with your phantom power for the mics. Grab yourself some monitors, and a preamp and you'll be on your way.

Have you got mics? Monitors? What will you be recording mainly? And how many simultaneously?

thanks for your input tiff.started to think no one had any thoughts on the matter.ive done real2real recording but digi. is brand new to me.seems a lot easyer to mix,long as the sound is good

No problem mate,

It's alot easier (in my eyes) than r2r, was brought up with both analogue and digital, but obviously, went the digital route for many options.

If you have a rough budget of what your wanting to spend on a set up, going to a big store (Dont know any well known ones over the pond) and asking them might do the trick. Jot down what they can offer you for a set up and come back on here and i'm sure many people will offer advice.

Main thing is, dont rush buying something, it's expensive stuff.
