How does a pair of Marshal MXL 603s sound for using on drum overheads, instruments, and female vocals sometimes. My sm58 for odd jobs, maybe snare or whatever, and a nice LD condensor for primary vocals, room mic, and other stuff? I was thinking AT 4040, SP C1, Baby blue bottle, etc..

Would these be good mics to start out with to do a wide range of jobs? Am i missing anything? And what LD condensor would you recomend?

So you would recomend the C1 over the at 4040 as a primary vocal mic and multi purpose ld condensor?

The 4050 on the listening sessions seemd to be a lot smoother, but that is also assuming that the 4050 has a similar sound to the 4040.

Would the C1 do the RNP justice? Or would it be worth getting something a little better? Or is the C1 just really great for it's price range, or should i say better than it's price range.

there's a review in this month's tape op from a reader comparing the 4040 to the 4050. Only one guy's opinion of course...

Not sure about the female vocal, but thumbs-up on the drum overhead, accoustic guitar, etc.

Some very good choices. Any one should do.

Out of the ones you mention, I'm a bit partial to the AT 4040 or the C1 for vocals, and the Baby Bottle for instruments. I'd have to give the nod to the 4040, if I had to choose between it and the C1, but either would do nicely. I'd take a ksm32 over any of 'em.
