Multiple Users?

Does anyone have multiple users setup on their computer? One for recording, and one for other things. I'd like to do this, but I don't want to sacrifice the performance during recording. Can anyone tell me if adding another user will hurt the performance?

I use Win2k if it matters.
 
It wont hurt it...and it wont help it much either. Although its a good way to keep things better organized for a recording setup.
Some may disagree, but I believe and use a dual boot to keep my recording OS seperate from my day to day OS. This allows me to customize my setup and rid the recording OS of useless garbage and eye candy and also disable PC components that are not needed.

I also run a dual boot setup. XP for the studio, and another XP for web, etc.

I always keep my both setups as clean as possible, and both are used for recording. I try and install a lot of softwares on the "every day" setup, and if this software is good and I know I will use it, I install it in the "studio" os.

The dual boot setup rescued me in a few recording session where the "Studio" OS was unstable. So I reboot in the other OS and continue the session without problems.

well..it didnt happend for about 2 years now but I still use a dual boot, just in case :)
 
So is a dual-boot preferable over a multiple user setup? I had a dual boot setup on my home computer, but than I got a dedicated computer for the studio. However, my wife is now using our home computer for school so it would be nice to use the studio computer for other uses as well.
 
I highly recomend a multi boot system. I have two Win2000 (one is my studio, the other is a general system) and one WinXP installed.
Note that there are several ways to install multi boot OS. I have written an article about one specific way that I find most relible. I have it in a Word document and I can email you if you want.
 
I'm also running Win 2K and for the time being I've set it up as different users. I may actually go to a dual boot system eventually but for right now the different user thing works fine.
 
nenor, that is exactly what I wanted - 2 win2000 installs. I've done dual boot before, but it wouldn't hurt to take a look at the document you put together. If you could send it to me that would be great.

You can use a program called partition magic to properly setup a dual boot. It works very well.
