Multiple USB inputs?

So... I'm running Cubase SX on my windows laptop, with an external USB sound card (an Edirol UA-25).

I'm trying to set up a USB mic (a Samson Q1U) to use as a second input (I'd like to be able to record with it at the same time as the sound card, as a seperate channel). Is it possible?

When I selected my sound card as my master ASIO driver, it wouldn't list the mic as an input. I tried switching to ASIO DirectX Full Duplex Driver, and I was able to use the mic, but it then wouldn't record any sound from my sound card.

Any help would be appreciated!

This should be possible. I did it once using 2 different USB audio interfaces, which a bunch of people didn't think was possible...
I'm not at my personal machine right now, but try something like this.
First, shut down Cubase, and then plug both of your USB devices in. (Cubase doesn't like it if you plug new things in while it's running..)
Now, once it loads, open your Asio4all control panel. You want to use the asio driver, not the directx one..
Near the upper left hand side you should see both devices listed, and they should have a little "+" that expands the category. Hopefully one of your devices is simply turned off (there's a power button next to them), which would have been the trouble before.

Also, make sure that your Ins and Outs are set up right in the "VST Connections" menu of Cubase itself (i think that's what it's called :-\). If your ASIO control panel is all right, both devices should show up in that menu with available Ins and Outs.

I hope this helps! Keep us posted!

ASIO4all sometimes works for this, and sometimes it doesn't. Either way, the latency is never that great.

Cheers :)

Generally, asio = ONE device driver at one time.

(remember that usb mics have a cheap 1-channel interface in them and trying to run multiple interfaces from different manufacturers will make them fight each other over resources)

Trying to cobble together stuff and make it work is dodgy at best.
Sell the cheap stuff and get an interface with more i/o's and real mics
