Multiple Soundcards in Cubase

I've just done a bunch of upgrades which include upgrading from Cubase SL 2 to SL 3 (finally!!) and adding a Tascam FW-1082 firewire interface/control surface. I've got everything up and running just fine so far. The next step I wanted to take is to have both the 1082 and my old M-Audio Delta 66 run simultaneously so I can have 12 active inputs when I need it (whole band scratch tracks is the intent). However when I try to configure the devices in Cubase it only allows me to select one or the other but not both as active at the same time. Should I be able to do this or is there an issue with multiple audio interfaces that makes this impossible?

Thanks,
Darryl.....

I'm not sure about your setup. In Cubase SE, if I select the ASIO Multimedia driver, it gives me the option to choose inputs from multiple devices (e.g. my delta 66 and Tascam US-122). I've never actually tried to record using both, though. You would probably need to sync the two devices to a single word clock for best results.

If you are using the FW1084, go out and get an 8 channel to lightpipe converter. This will give you 16 channels and you won't have to deal with running multiple cards.

Cheers,
Zach

OMG i just ran into the same problem! Just when i was going to post i looked in here.

So its a no? :(

I saw that option but didn't try it since there were specific asio drivers for each device. I'll try the internal sync option if I get that far and see what happens. Otherwise I might have to try to figure out how to sync with the SPDIF connections.

Also, I appreciate the thought about the lightpipe inputs but the 1082 doesn't have the ADAT interface like the 1884 does (and that saved me $700 in price). Part of the reason I went with the lower price 1082 was that I already had the Delta 66 and figured that the most simultaneous tracks I'd need based on past history was 12, so I put my money towards other things instead (and am now out of $$$ for the studio for awhile according to my wife!!). Along the way I had to upgrade my Windows to be compatible with the new SL version and the 1082, and had to purchase a new hard drive for system software (I didn't want to wipe my original drive to upgrade Windows since it would have required that; now I have an extra drive for my remote rig). Since I'm moving away from my stand-alone Mackie MDR for tracking in the studio (the MDR will be permanently kept in my remote rig), I also need to buy (or build) a slew of new balanced cables, re-route my patchbay, re-build my desk to accommodate the new setup (and the list goes on...........). I seem to think too much about the details :(

Anyway, thanks for the advice. I'll let you know if it works.

If you get a chance to try the ASIO multimedia driver before I post again let us know your results. It might be a couple of days before I get another chance to play with it.

it wont work,i've tried it :(

DDEV let me know if your works. Mine wont even sync, has 8 errors

It looks to me like it is working. It took awhile to configure it and this is what I think I remember doing (my studio PC isn't on the web so I have to do this from memory).

After I selected ASIO multimedia I went into the Advanced settings and there was a listing of all audio devices which included all the various inputs and outputs of both the Delta 66 and the FW-1082. I selected all of the analog channels for each one for both input and output and then ran the simulation test, which came back with no problems reported. I did notice after exiting the Advanced screen that my latency had made a huge jump up (it was something like 3-5 ms before and then was like 100 ms after). But, even so, I was able to setup a project, select VST connections, and assign all the various channels. I just didn't have time to actually try running some audio into everything, but now at least I have a clue how to do it. I will also have to pay attention to the synchronization since it defaulted to the top item on the output list for sync. I'll post more once I actually run a bunch of simultaneous audio channels to see how it performs.

Thanks Scrubs :D :D

Well, I had some time tonight to play around with this. I am able to record all 12 input tracks simultaneously, but I think that the 2 sources may not be sync'd properly. It appeared to me aurally that there was a bit of delay on the Delta 66 tracks versus the FW-1082 tracks. I was beginning to lose my ability to focus my eyes any longer so gave up for the night. But, it works, which is what I had hoped for. Now to figure out how to sync the cards properly.

Darryl.....

Mine wont even show.

I have realteck soundcard built in to the motherboard yet its desabled, but when i run the multimedia drivers neither of my cards show up,but the stupid realteck card shows up,and plays on one speaker of my audiophile.Strange!

Anyway

DDev could you tell me step by step on how you ran the multimedia option ?Everytime it asks to check test my connections it says"failed to sync" And when i lower the latency it goes fine but wont show my curent hardware  just the realteck crap.
