Multiple soundcard question.

Hi there,

I'm using Cool edit as multitracker on a Duron PC .
I'm using Reality as a synth on a 233 PC. I record
the synth via 233's out into the Duron's ins. As simple
as it gets. But is there an easier way to record the synth
using 2 soundcards on the Duron only. I'm planning
to use the Duron's onboard AC 97 soundchip for
Cool edit and another PCI card for the Reality.
I tried having both programs on at the same time but
one of them always displays a "soundcard already
used by another program". What's the best way to do this?
I even heared there is a "virtual" cable software for these applications but don't know much about it. Should I stick
with the separate PC approach?

I forgot to mention that I plan to record the synth
via the PCI card's out into the onboard soundchip
of the motherboard's input using a short cable.

You can record with both sound cards at once by specifying this in your software.

I am a little fuzzy on exaclty what you plan on doing, but if you are using the out's of your 233 to the inputs of your duron, you should be fine

Thanks for the reply Sae. It seems ther is hope for me yet.

My plan is to use 2 soundcards on one Duron PC. Asign one for multitracker and the other for the soft synth. I'll be
using the onboard soundchip (AC 97 ) that came with the
Duron for the Multitracker and another PCI card for the
soft synth. I will connect the outs of the "Synth card"
to the ins of the " multitracker card". If this fails then
I'll use 2 PCI cards.

Thanks again.

Hey Deputy Gidge,

I tried this using only my PC's onboard sound (AC 97).
But whenever I try to open both Cool Edit and Reality
soft synth there is an error, " could not open the device
is already in use by another program. "

How do I do it exactly. I'm drooling over the possiblity of not buying another PC just to run Soundfonts on a Soft synth.
Are you thinking of those "virtual cable" softwares?

Thanks Deputy Gidge. I think I figured it out.
I was so blind it 's just embarassing. Thanks again.
It worked!
