Multiple MOTU Traveler's using Logic Pro 8?

Ok, use a single MOTU Traveler regularly with my Macbook Pro and Logic Pro 8. I recently purchased another Traveler and wanted to "piggy back" them to record simultaneous 16 tracks. I am getting an option under preferences for either "Motu 1" or "Motu 2" as an audio interface. When I switch back and forth they both are working but I can't get them to work together. What's the deal? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Dont connect them both to your computer via the firewire, use the ADAT. Connect ONE traveler to your computer via the firewire, then connect the 2nd traveler to the 1st one via the optical. You should be able to see all 16 channels on your computer, coming out of one traveler, if you hook em up that way. That's exactly what those ADAT ports are for,

Suprastar's advice is best. While you're looking for an Adat cable, you could try creating an "aggregate" device with both of them using the audio/midi utility that's part of the Mac OS distribution in the "Utililties" folder of "Applications" - you can bundle them together into a third aggregate device that will let you access all the I/O of both of them. Your challenge might be that you need to clock them together to get it to work. I run my traveler together with an Echo Audiofire 12 this way, but I have to use an external word clock to get it to work right (er, I *do* run an external word clock, which I needed to get the traveler to work with an ART Digital MPA - I haven't tried a few potential options with the just the Echo and the MOTU, such as clocking one directly off the other) - anyway....

I *think* that MOTU's interfaces support synchronizing to the FireWire clock anyway, so an aggregate device should "just work" and should stay in sync. I could be wrong, though.

It's a pity that Logic requires leaving the application to create an aggregate device. Digital Performer (and probably AudioDesk that came with your interface) supports multiple interfaces transparently; you just shift-click the interfaces in its setup pane. Not a big deal, just a minor UI nuisance. :)

Hi all,

Thank you so much for the idea of aggregating two motu's. I can confirm this work, accessible to all I/O. I've yet to try a full 24-track recording on my imac, but hopefully the load is not too taxing on the system.

Just a note that sample rate is set up properly in your software - seems to override motu's audio setup app

The clock is set by setting one of the motu's as primary in the Audio Midi Utility app

I have 2 traveler's and ADAT unit

I have my two travelers now as an aggregate device in logic too. :-) Great tip!
I have a mk 1 and a mk 3. MK 3 as clock. Firwire out from Mk 3 into Mk 1.
All outs working except one small issue....
When trying to send output signal on a logic audiochannel to the MK1 s output 1 and 2 there is no signal.
In logic this output is numbered output 31-32...... 33-34 is out 3 and 4 and 35-36 is out 5 and 6 etc that works fine.

What am I overlooking? I want to use output 1 and 2 of the mk 1 as well.:confused:
