The Way It Moves
I was just wondering, I'm interested in recording bands "live". Meaning, they all set up however they want, and I mic it all up (or go direct, what have you).

Is there some kind of equipment out there, preferrably on a firewire interface that can do several inputs at once? Like maybe seven or so?

Yep you can pick up a firepod for $400. Hook it up to a laptop, you've got a pretty good mobile rig

The stage sound and light company I work part time for doing repairs and setting up shows.

Used a RME octa8 and fireface 800 and a laptop

After a few close calls he got a Alesis HD24 that is used now

plug it in turn it on and press record.. saves a lot of head aches for him

The bonus of this is I bought the RME hardware off him at a good price :D

For situatios where I am running the live sound I use a mackie Onyx 1640. Lets me mix the show how I need and record 16 tracks via firewire straight from the Pre's. I really like the way it sounds and it is an affective board. Far from inexpensive though, but it doubles as a live board. If you do not need a live board, you can go with any number of the available interfaces.
