multiple channels on multiple tracks

How do I record from my 16 channel mackie mixer to my computer and have all of the channels come out as different tracks? I havn't bought a good sound card or anything yet, so I'm wondering what I need befor I do. Thanks guys!
 
You need a sound card with as many distinct gozintas/gozoutas as the number of channels you want to separate....!

Then each mixer channel has its own separate I/O..........

plus , don't be afraid to record to stereo...there is such a thing as spontaneity.
 
J, that's the whole idea of a multi input sound card. You can record to several tracks at the same time and not be limited to just stereo.
 
if you are looking for 16 simultaneous recording channels get ready to spend some money probably at least 1000.00 dollars.
If you are simply concerned with pluging in each to the mixer and selecting the individual track to record just use direct out or aux bus direct to sound card input. You can get and 8 channel sound card for 500 or so.
