I am new to audio recording and having problems getting a recording level that will work on the PC. When I hook up the mixer via USB, the volume controls all set to max, I may get peaks around -36db. What am I doing wrong? On another mixer board we went into the microphone input and set mic boost in windows to +20db. Is there a similar setting for USB audio?

Right now when I play back, I can barely hear the audio recording.

Im not absolutely sure on USB systems but try going in to your sound and audio devices properties and "Sound Recording" volumes, may be set too low.

Hope this helps.

yeah, with usb systems it bypasses the computers soundcard all together.... so theres not even a "sound recording" option when you have it plugged in...

i have the multimix 16usb, and it works fine... what i do is set the channel fader to 0, and the main mix to 0... then i adjust the channels gain accordingly.

what kind of mic are you using, could it be that possibly you dont have the phantom power on??

if not, then i'd call Alesis and see whats goin on.... or if its a new unit, take it back and exchange.

Also, are you using a decent mic? Maybe the mic itself has a very low output. Or the cord is bad, or something along those lines.
