multichannel mixer for Cubase

hi, I have Sound Balster Audigy2 ZS and Cubase SX 3. Now, I've just bought a Eurorack UB802 mixer but I can't get the Cubase to recognise the channels from UB802 :confused:
I know the basic of Cubase but how will I let Cubase know I've got a mixer? Where can I configure the channels in Cubase? I tried the the device setup and it did'nt even say anything about the mixer, just the sound card ( actually it's the front panel in the drive bay that has midi connection, 1/4 inch input as well ). I'm using the 1/4 inch line-in
 
Line in doesn't carry data and the UB802 doesn't send it :( You'll need a FireWire mixer to do this.

All you can do is set the Inputs in Cubase to the Stereo Line-In port on your sound card and plug the Main-Outs to the line in using a Y cable on the mixer.

It's not possible to get Channel 1 on the UB802 to the Track 1 in Cubase.

The best you can do is plug the main outs into this port. You'll probably need a Y cable.

Why would I use Y cable if there are eight input channels on the mixer? There must be some ways that we can record different intruments at the same time

You need to get an 8-input soundcard like a Delta1010. That Soundisaster is not going to cut it
 
OK here's your mixer and Soundcard:-

All the items shaded in Red are your inputs. The green are the outputs. The black lines indicate what is going on.

So the inputs are all sent to the main outs (or control outs either one, but control outs are used for monitors). Then the main outs should be plugged into a Y Cable (thick black lines) that will connect into the Line-In on your drive bay.

That's the only way you're getting this mixer connected to your computer.

The mixer may have 8 channels but it's only got 1 output.

The only other way to record all instruments at the same time and have them wind up on seperate tracks is by buying a new mixer that has individual outputs and a firewire interface or a new sound card like the one mentioned above (Delta1010)... or buying a firewire mixer.

Buying the Delta1010 will only be a waste of money if you plan to use it with the UB802 because you're only able to use one output on the 802 anyways.

You could have the right channel plugged into one input on the Delta1010 and pan that channel totall right and the other plugged into another input on the Delta 1010 and pan that totally left etc. But that's just a waste of time really.

If you're looking into recording a whole bunch of instruments at one time a quick search on "FireWire Mixers" and "FireWire Interfaces" will get you some pretty solid information :)
 
if you decide you do want to buy a firewire mixer, iv recently been using an alesis multimix 8 and its a great wee tool. will do 8 channels at a time:)

I tried to pan one stereo track to the left for microphone and the other stereo track to the right for the guitar but they both work at the same time. grrrrrr :mad:

Everytime I pan the left or right in the mixer of Cubase, the other channel follows instead of stay in the opposite side.

Hope someone can explain to me how to adjust the channel for different instrument. I use Y Cable from the mixer to pc. I plug mic in left for one channel and guitar in right at the other channel. Because I use Y Cable, it should work for one instrument for each channel in Cubase

how the hell did you get them to work together? i always got an error about the sample rate being fixed, turns out audigy drivers blow and creative wont fix em.
 
I have the same sample rate error too but I just ignore it. It still works fine after you click on OK and continue with your recording.

Wow...you're using a $150 or so non-pro sound card with a pro $600 software? Sounds veryyyy fishy....
 
Lol, I'm not surprised that you all are suspicous 'cause I'm 90% deaf and I'm still very lucky to be able to hear some sounds but not as much as you all can. So really, I cannot tell if it's stereo or mono if I did'nt know it. Even I can't hear much different with the quality of the sound. Just enough for me to plays guitar and sing with satisfactions ;)

So :rolleyes: is there any chance for someone tell me step by step of how to pan the channels so I can play different instrument in different track?
I know a bit about the mixer in Cubase but still, both intruments plays in the same track even I pan the channels left and right
 
Do you have both the instruments on the same track or what?
 
It is but I dont want it to. I've created two audio tracks. I was hoping I use the first track for guitar and the second track for microphone. I did the connecting that sowpunk was showing (gosh, the y cable cost me 54 bucks but has 24K gold plated)

I've put the mic in Left input of the mixer ( line in 3/4 of the mixer) and guitar in the Right input of Line in 5/6 of the mixer.

I've connect the y cable from the Left and Right outputs of the mixer to the front Audigy2 panel ( to Line in2/ Mic in2 )

I've paned the channel of the first audio track in Cubase to far left, hoping the audio track will only play mic not guitar but, still, both intruments are playing at the same time in the same channel even I pan the channel to far left.

I'm trying to figure out how to seperate intruments in two mono tracks from the mixer's Right and Left output
