Multichannel firewire soundcard for WINDOWS?

Most interfaces using firewire use their own firewire card. Names to check:

RME hammerfall DSP
MOTU 896
Metric Halo
Creamware Z-link stuff (I do not recomend creamware as a whole, but YMMV)

Warning! Blatantly obvious ignorance follows!

I was interested in firewire as a way to possibly use a notebook without the 2-channel limitation of USB, but I also like the idea of an external unit anyway. Here's the part where I really show my ignorance: I was under the impression that you had to use the MOTU stuff with Digital Performer, which is a Mac only product. Is this not true? Am I operating under a false assumtion?

Why not look at the new Digidesign Digi-002?? For $2K you not only get an 18-input 24bit/96k standalone digital motorized mixer, but 32-track ProToolsLE and a bunch of great plugins...... Throw a Firewire card in your computer (Mac or PC) and you've got a whole studio ready to go.

Digi002 is incredibly cool...the way I would go if I wanted a Firewire solution.

That would be great, but...

My wife tells me I don't have the 2K. (Oh, yeah, that's what my bank account says, too.)

And if I lived in Ft. Lauderdale, I wouldn't be holed up in some basement studio-wannabe. I'd be on the beach with my acoustic, using phrases like "Hey, ladies. How YOU doin'?" :D
