Looks handy . Downloaded . If I open the file it invokes cubase ai 13 but isn't in there as a vst instrument . Confused

You don't "run" MTPDK. It's a VST plugin and you have to make sure that you added the VST to your list of available plugins. Load a project and add the plug-in to a track, just like any FX. It will present you with a picture of a drum kit. You have the option of adjusting the mixer, or selecting "grooves". If you just click on the drum kit, you will get the sound of each piece.

Select grooves, and you can go through a massive list of beats, usually one to 3 bars long. Just drag a beat you like to your track and it shows up as a midi track which will play through MTPDK.

I use Reaper but this is roughly what it should look like. The lines behind the picture are a couple of grooves that I dragged and dropped to a track.

Ok but I don't use cubase to record as such it's just a host for libraries .I record in a standalone hardware multitrack . Does this make a difference to the above advice ?

You still need to have a track in Cubase. You could put together a drum track in Cubase and "play" it back to your multitrack, but it's not designed to be a drum machine that you play live. I did something like that with my old Alesis SR18. I plugged it into my Yamaha AW16G and "played" the drum grooves onto a stereo track with a rough guitar/vocal mic track as a guide. I then added in all the guitars, bass and vocals to make the finished song. That was years before I had a DAW.

I really don't know what you mean by using cubase as a "host for libraries". Do you dump the recorded tracks down to Cubase and then adjust it later?

I open a library. practice the part (say spitfire strings ) and record them as a live performance onto an 8 track machine

There's a pic of the vst I have . Like where's the drums one ?

Maybe a Cubase user can guide you on how to get the VST to show up in the list. With Reaper, you can add a path to the scan list, or add the VST to a current list and it will be scanned when the program launches.

What if you open a track like you would do for audio, and were going to add an EQ or reverb VST. Does MTPDK show up in that list?

Yes I sort of tried that went to the media FX bit and couldn't see it . Pretty defeated by it

I know it's compatible with Cubase, I just don't know how since I don't use it. Is there a place where you can search for VSTs in Cubase? Where did MTPDK install? It should reside in a folder with other VSTs. Mine is intalled in C:/Program Files/Common Files/VST3, along with Isotrope, BQ Freq Analysis and YouLean Loudness.

BTW, there is the "Composer" section where you can develop patterns from the grooves. and you can play the drum kit from things like a keyboard if you're good at it.

Yes that's why I wanted it . Looks like you can bolt a song sequence together quick and easy

I'll have to look tomorrow from memory I downloaded as the windows vst3 64 bit option

You wouldn't happen to know if ssd 5.5 drum plugin has that simple composer type option like this vst does ?
