I want to get one of these machines for around $2000. is this possible? or is it a joke? also, is the price jump very high to the 24 track?

ive seen MS-16's with mixer go for 1,500. I'm not sure how much MSR-24's usually go for most ive seen are around 2,500

I think it's almost even money.

Lately, the reality of it, is that the MS-16 is a solid buy at ~$1500, and often creeping to around or below the $1000 mark.

The MSR-24 often bids as low as $1500,... just because it's such a sleeper gear item, meaning great gear value that no one knows about. I saw an MSR-24 with tons of accessories, (MRL, remote, tape, rolling cart, cables), just go BEGGING for bids at $1500.

Go search the Ebay history on (MS-16's &) MSR-24's, and tell me if I'm wrong. Those amounts are pretty good estimates.

Are the MS-16's and the MSR-24's both 1 inch machines? If the MSR-24 is a 2 inch machine, is the sound quality significantly better than the MS-16? Aproximately how much more is a roll of quality 2 inch tape than 1 inch tape? Also how do the MS and MSR Tascams compare in terms of features with the ATR60-16 Tascams? Assuming all the machines your looking at are in good shape, maintained well, and have the same number of tracks ...would you prefer the MS, MSR, or ATR version of Tascam? I tried to find the ebay history link to see what those had sold for, but could not find the history link on the ebay page. Where on the ebay site is the history link?

Eh,...

The MS-16, MSR_24 & ATR-60/16 are all 1" machines.

With all things being equal, in condition of equipment, etc,... I think you'd want the ATR-60/16.

However, things are never equal that way.

By specs alone, you'd expect higher fidelity from the likes of the MS-16 & ATR-60/16, especially when dbx option is included. The MSR-24's not too shabby, though, and at a certain point in the specs-vs-real difference upon listening, it's more like splitting hairs.

Of course, you'd go for the ATR-60/16, then the MS-16, and then the MSR-24, in that order,... if all other factors could be considered "equal",... but they never are.

If you're keen to get something right now, go look up HR member Jake O.W.A., cause he's selling his ATR-60/16 outta Oregon for $1000, in a distress sale. That deal won't last long.

Currently, the MS-16 is bidding around the $1000 mark, the MSR-24 around the $1500 mark, and the ATR-60/16 about $2000.

;)
