Hmmmmm.....

I bought a new laptop... Dell P4 3.2 running XP Pro SP2.
Since the purchase, I've been mainly using my VF16 for recording and porting the tracks via JAZ drive into the laptop for mixing down.
At one point, I did use my MR8 for a friend's son's piano recital and ported everything into the laptop via Wave Mgr and USB with no problems.
Last night however, I recorded with the MR8 and couldn't locate the drive in Wave Mgr when I wanted to upload...
I turned off the MR8 and XP failed to report that a device was disconnected... When I turned the MR8 back on, a quick blurb popped on the 'remove hardware' applet that said 'Unkown device' and then vanished (I have yet to see that pop up again).
Long story short, The laptop has no clue the MR8 is there...

I've tried disconnecting all other USB devices, swapping out USB cables, rebooting the laptop with the MR8 switched on.... Nothing is working...
I've ordered a card reader and it should be here in a couple of days, but I was curious if anyone had any possible resolutions...?

I've had this problem on my pc, too. Sometimes the pc didn't recognize the mr-8. What I did was leave it connected to the pc, and just exit out of the usb menu, wait a few ticks and go back into the usb menu. Eventually it picked it up. I stopped having the problem after I upgraded my RAM to 512, and in about a week I am upgrading to 1Gb. I haven't tried to connect to a laptop, so I can't be much help there. The card reader might be your best choice. Before you go into the card reader, make sure that you delete the unused tracks on the MR-8, and don't go into the folder marked "mixed2" or something like that.

be careful

dont let the pc format your card.... that sucks....

i also got a card reader for bvarious reasons, but it did solve this problem

The MR-8 hickups sometimes connecting via usb. I tried it six times the other day before it connected. I was pissed off, but the very next time I tried to connect, it went right away. I think the processor isn't that great, I dunno. Sometimes I can run it fine and everything is great. Sometimes I get little stutters, problems with usb connections, annoying voices on the recordings (oh wait, that's my singing voice :o ). It comes and goes. Still for the money, it's a great machine....

It always takes a while for xp to recognize the mr8 on mine.

I usually just plug it in, go for a piss, grab a beer, check my cigarette supply, read a few magazines, check my prostate... and when I'm done, it's usually found the mr8.

Check your prostate???? I never put anything up there! I have an "Exit Only" tattoo right above it! :D

waiting

thats why i use the card reader, no waithig at all,

and rokket... get used to the idea at 40 you will be getting checked for prostate cancer every year, or you will die early......
