I just got the MR8 2 days ago and I'm a little confused on the transferring of files to the computer. I understand you need the Wav Manager Software to upload and download the wav files via the usb cable. What if you are using a card reader? I will be recording on the MR8 and mixing/mastering on my computer wich is in another room. I'd rather not have to lug the MR8 to the mixing room just to transfer the files. Or, do I have to use the WavMnger to get the wav files using the Card reader, too?

Also can you do the software upgrade via the card reader? The instructions on Fostex's web site did not mention using a card reader just the usb transfer. No biggie, just curious. I can lug it into the mixing room every once in a while for the software updates.

Sorry for the super noob questions. I haven't gotten a chance to use the last two days. And I'm just trying to get an understanding of the process before I jump in and start using it.

Thanks for any help! I'm itching to get started with it.

wav manager

yes you need to use it, some people dont think so, but if you do any punching in or skipping around, the files wont be in sink if you dont use it.

yes you can upgrade with the card reader,

when you send files back to the mr8 from the pc, have to name the file tr01.wav (the number corrisponds to the track you want it on...)

has to be made a mono 16 bit 144 to go back to the card....

taking off the mr8 is a breeze
when you install wav manager the icon will look just like the mr8, open it choose mr8 to pc, select files and off you go

good luck

the only time i don't use wave manager is when i'm copying off the card either usb or reader to backup or archive the song. If i record from the radio on a new song then I know i'll have one file name and it'll be the one mono track i made and i don't need to use wave manager. But if i stopped it and restarted it then it's in segments....
