MR8 to CD Recorder

Hi, I have two questions on recording from the Fostex MR8 to a CD Recorder. 1.) Do I have to convert tracks 1>6 to 7/8 to make it into a stereo WAV file or can I just play tracks 1>6, mix them and record them to a cd recorder as it plays? 2.) What CD recorder do you folks suggest for recording from the MR8. I know it has to have the digital input. Also do you need DA cd's or will any recordable cd work? Thanks a ton!!

Welcome Big John. You do not have to mixdown to 7/8 before transferring to a CD recorder. You can either go with an analog mixdown using the stereo out jacks on the MR-8 or you can go digital with the digital out jack. Either way you mixdown to CDR. In other words you need to rehearse the mixdown so you will have everything at the proper levels when it gets to CD.

I don't know what other digital hookups look like (except I guess USB is digital), but this is what is known as a light pipe. I think you are probably going to have to look for a CD recorder that has digital hookups. I don't think they all have it. Mine doesn't. Have you thought about getting an external CD burner to hook to your PC? Then you can just transfer everything to your PC and burn CDs from there.

When I purchased my standalone cd-recorder almost three years ago, I understood that s/pdif optical i/o jacks were standard. I would be very surprised if that has changed. If not, and the only digital i/o jacks are coax, Fostex does make a converter.
