Thanx. I printed that to read/digest later.

I've read tutorials about compressors before, but either I'm too dense, or it's something that just can not be learned so easily...
Did you get that DMP3 working yet?

When are you going to post something for me to listen to?

Just bustin' yer balls.... :D

Oh, and being bored on a Monday night in good ol' Sasebo Japan......

I haven't even got my tax refund yet!!! Geesh, settle down :D !!!

Like I said, I'm just trying to get a jump on the DMP3, and I've read and asked all the questions I can until I actually get the damned thing! Also getting a Furman PL-8II, and a Senn e609s. I CAN"T WAIT!!!! :D

I guess I'll have to post something eventually, just to prove the fact that I do record some stuff, and confirm my level of suck-itude. You think you've heard bad sounding shit... you just wait!!!

I will astound you with my lack of skills, you'll be awed by my poor guitar playing, you'll marvel at the horror that is my wailing voice, you'll cry that such horrors are allowed to exist in the world...

Oh, I doubt that! You're gonna hafta prove it! :D

And I will wait here, patiently for you to do just that!

And I was only funnin' ya anyway...

Like how I abused the English language to get my point across?

DON'T YOU MAKE ME RECORD A SONG SPECIFICALLY FOR YOU!!!
I'LL BE SOOO MEAN THAT YOU'LL CRY!!!

that is if the horrendous nature of the music/recording hasn't already made you weep.

Ahh shit, "Rocket-man" is already a song...

Never mind....

ya know...

You got me thinking...

We should start a thread where we can post our most heinous atrocities...

Lord knows I could pad my post count pretty effectively in this way....

My Yamaha MG10/2 just arrived today and in the 4 or 5 nanoseconds that I've had to tinker with it, it's obvious that it is going to be a welcome addition to my recording chain...

I like the fact that it is going to be just as portable as my MR8, and still has all the inputs I'm needing when utilizing my VF16...

I got it off ebay for about $75...

:D

$75??? Phucking SWEEEET!!!

VF16? is that an abbreviation of VF160???
Speaking of which, is there a black VF160? I was something similar in appearance to it, but it was black...

The VF-16 was the foist incarnation of the 160... Only a 5.1 gig HDD and no CDRW Drive... But it's got 16 tracks (I can do 8 at once) plus 8 'extras' and onboard phantom power... Another Ebay find a while back. :D
Ive added a SCSI Plextor Plexwriter CDRW to it, as well as keeping a 1 Gig SCSI Jaz Drive around to help transfer files to the 'puter...
It has lightpipe digital I/O and Midi I/O so I can synch it up with my MR8 and/or computer when needed...
I'm debating about upgrading the drive on it to a minimum of 20 gigs... We did our CD on it (12 songs of 8 to 16 tracks) and I didn't fill the existing drive so I'm not sure how important that is right now...
My next upgrade MIGHT just be to move on to a unit capable of 24 bit recording...
Hey... it's only money right?

I am saving all the upgrade money for a real studio. I was thinking of an analog/digital hybred, seeing the issues with the lack of tape for analog machines....
I was looking at the HD24.... I've heard lots of good things about it. But I also heard that you had to use a LAN cable to transfer tracks to pc for mixing.... I'll figure it out when the time comes...
Right now it's my MR-8 and its sorry pre amps...

That DMP3 is looking better every day...

You and me both. Do you think my AC/DC-style song would fit in that catagory?

As a matter of fact, I may do that... I am going to get my soundclick account set up with my new "band" and repost "The Gang's All Here" in that to get it started. Should be a hoot...

I set it up, but I have to wait to see if it clears. If not, I will just repost it on my account and then start the thread.

Heinous though it may be to you, it wouldn't fit in the same category with the crap I'm talking about...

Yeah, but it could be a public contest of sorts, right up there with American Idol! Who is the worst of the worst? The only problem is there would have to be guidelines: you can't do a shit song on purpose. It would have to be a genuine effort, and there has to be something about it you like. And no cover tunes...

I'll give it some thought while I am waiting for soundclick to clear my new "band"....

If i didn't have 3 pre's already i'd definitely get the dmp3, i came close to it, but not yet, i'm still exploring the pres in the korg....i do like my compressor tho, it's the art pro vla that a lot of folks here said was good. it is good, i just used it across my latest mix for a try. it was a mf sale at $250 or something like that.

Musician's Friend is great, but I wish they carried a wider variety of lefty instruments. I have been looking all over the place for a pair of left handed drums sticks....

I'm kidding. I like the prices, but I was told that the bundled packages aren't always a good deal because they usually bundle something decent with stuff they can't sell.

But I guess every place does that....

i used to use a standalone recorder

you have to have an outboard compressor - the behringer autocoms and composers are perfect - cheap as hell, sound good, lots of metering so you can see whats going on

a comp will give you hotter fatter signals going in with less worry

if you have a comp then you need an outboard mic preamp. its also cool to have a small mixer before the compressor

then the real ultimate upgrade would be an outboard converter. that way you bypass the cheap converters and trim stages. the art di/o is cheap and gets rave reviews

with the right cheap stuff you can pimp the mr8 im sure
