MR8: Meaning of Card Error Codes?

Hi everybody,

For a while I kept getting a card error "0CD" everytime I switched on my MR8. I just ignored it and everything seemed to be fine. Then yesterday I was recording a very long track in extended mode (just trying to digitalize an audio tape as an experiment) and after about 18 minutes I kept getting card error 1000. The funny thing was that on playback I always got this error at about the same spot and it sounded very jumpy. I decided to split the track saving the "good bit" on a different track. After having copied the two tracks to PC and deleting them on the Mr8 I found that the "bad" track with the last 5 minutes of recording was in fact fine but the "good" track was completely buggered up in the middle with about 5 minutes repetition of 1 second of recording. Fortunately this was all just an experiment but if I'd been doing some serious recording (whatever that is) I'd have been rather upset at the results. So now I've decided to backup everything to PC as soon as possible after recording and reformat the card. I just don't trust these cards any more.

But my question(s) is(are): Are these error codes card manufacturer specific? Are they documented anywhere?

Thanks for your help

Duncan

PS I was using a recommended 128MB Delkin Devices card. I'm still on version 1 of the firmware , I think.

error

i read on the fostex site that this error was fixed on one of the newer software versions, download the latest version to allow the aftermarket cf cards to work well with the mr8, and to repair the two other errors that are prown to the old version.....
