I use my mr8 to dump tracks into Cakewalk and mix from there. My issue is that for some reason WavManager does not let me transfer .wav files from my computer to the mr8, because apparently it can't transfer stereo tracks into the mr8. How do I make these tracks mono?

In cakewalk, you should have the ability to export out as Stereo, separate L/R, or Mix down to mono when saving as Wav's...
I use Cakewalk Music creator and those are the choices it offers...

Barring that, I'm pretty sure you can open the file in Audacity and split em up in there...

Hope this helps!

Are you putting the tracks back on the MR-8 to continue to record more tracks? I don't understand why you want to put them back in the MR-8 if you mixed them on the pc already?

I do this one of two ways:

1. I bounce down the tracks to 7/8 after I export them to pc, so I still have a good song bed to continue to record with.
2. I copy the tracks (named tr01, tr02, etc) to a new folder and rename them according to the instrument (i.e. lead guitar, vocal) and mix those tracks. That way, I still have the original mono tracks if I decide a month down the road to put them back on the MR-8 if I want to make changes.

Since it's not possible to put stereo tracks on the MR-8, if you don't do things like I do, another way to put them on there is to render them in your software to a mono track.

But I still don't understand why you want to put them back on the MR-8, since you never said why you are doing that...

Sorry for the confusion.....Yes, that is in fact what I am doing. I record on the mr8, upload to pc, and mix/edit them on pc. I simply need a way to transfer them back from pc to mr8 for further recording of other tracks.
I didn't put this before because I figured that no one really gives a crap, but I'll put it now to clear it up. Here's what I need to be able to do:

1) Record drums on mr8
2) Upload drums to computer and edit the track
3) Upload drums back to mr8
4) Record bass on mr8 using the new drum track as a guide
5) Upload bass to computer and mix/edit the track
6) Upload bass back to mr8
7) Record guitar on mr8 using the new bass track as a guide
8) You get the idea....

In the past, to get a track back onto the mr8, I used to mic my computer speakers and record a playback of the track(s) i'm trying to put back in, but there has to be an easier/more convenient way!

by the way...I would just keep the tracks on the mr8, but I edit timing errors (alot!) and what not before I record the next track, so the original track on the mr8 is different than the newly mixed one

Hmmmm, since you can't put stereo tracks back on the MR-8, I guess the thing to do is keep your edited drums in your software, but render them as a mono .wav file and transfer that to the MR-8 so that you can continue to record. You will have the stereo tracks in the software, so there is no need for having the stereo tracks in the MR-8 since even the mono drum track will give you what you need: the beat. Try it this way, I'm sure it will work ok for you.
The other option would be to split the stereo track in your software and render it as tr07 and tr08, but I'm sure that will be a chore for you to do, so I would do it the way I suggested...

With my mixing software I have to convert mixed tracks to a stereo wav. Then I import that back into my software. The software asks me if I want to keep it stereo and I just click no. I then take my mixed mono wav and send back to mr8. I rename my tracks tr01 etc. when I save. I only use these as guide tracks for more over dubbing. Never for a final mix. Pj

I do the same, except that I bounce them all down to 7/8, then overdub the rest of my tracks on there. I use the bounced down tracks as a guide track and build on it.

I don't have to take tracks back to the MR-8 when I am working on a song. But every once in awhile, I may want to add something. I save the bounced tracks as tr07 and tr08 so that I can put them back on and do what I am going to do.

But in this case, he is editing the drums, which are a stereo track. I still think if you are recording them as a stereo track on the MR-8, you are downloading them to your software as tr01 and tr02, or which ever pair you have assigned as stereo tracks. Therefore you can import them into the software, make your changes on the tracks as a stereo pair, and save them again as tr01, tr02, etc...

It will take some doing, but it can be done. You just have to look at what you have. Doing in as I stated above may not work, as you may edit them differently, and they won't line up once you are done. You may still have to render it as a mono track and put it on the MR-8...
