MR8 and DMP3?

Anyone here use both of these?
I'm wondering which output on the DMP3 matches up to the MR8.

If you use a cable with TRS, it will be at +4 ......
If you use a cable with TS, it will be at -10 ......
which you wanna use depends on what you are going into.....

The DMP3 has the both +4 and -10dB.

Just be sure to match them up -10 output with -10 input and so on. If you don't know what kind of input you have, then who cares? Just select one at random and if you get noise, or your recording signal is too loud or too soft, then try switching to the other.

Which one is appropriate for the MR8???
I couldn't find it in the manual, but I'm off for a 10th look...

Enlightenment appreciated.

I looked at the user manual .pdf @ fostex, and got tired of it skipping/jumping and waiting for a page to load, so I d/l'ed it, and am getting ready to pour through it again...

what I did find was

Input Level: -50DBV (MIC)
+2DBV (LINE)

which doesn't help me much...

My understanding of those settings (my Behringer Composer 2200 has them also) is most home user equipment will be at -10db... most pro equipment will be at +4db....

I would think the MR8 qualifies at the -10db level...

Got a response from Fostex, and I'm a little concerned about, as Dave in Toledo says "correct gain staging".

Maximum Input level of the MR-8 is +2dBV which is +4dBu.

So you should be able to connect the Mic Pre to MR-8's input, You just turn
down the TRIM knob all the way down to LINE.

Wouldn't "turning down the TRIM" "overdrive" the pre-amp of the MR8, potentially creating distortion? Isn't that what "distortion" is, the overdriving of one pre by another??????????????????

Well, in this case, the trim knob is not a volume knob when the MR-8 is switched to mic/line. It is a two-way knob for just that - setting it to mic input or line input, so it won't distort it or overdrive it. If you set it up like the Fostex rep said, it should work. It's good to know, because now I can get me one of them!

Yes, it will accepts TRS ( Tip Ring Sleeve jacks) but the INPUT jacks are unbalanced ( Tip and Sleeve), but you should not have any problem with TRS jacks.

I don't know. It seems to me that the ring part would not be making any contact with anything... Of course I am far from expert on this...

If you turn down the trim on that unit, it makes the input a line level input. That is what you should be sending it, line level. You will be fine if you follow fostex's advise.
