Joemeek MQ3 has an opto-compressor(optical), they are known to be up front, in your face, and un-apologetic. It makes a great vocal channel, just add delay(or reverb) and stir. It's not a unit known to be really quiet, or really transparent, but you will find a lot of uses for it. I wouldn't mic a Grand Piano through it, but if you put a singer in front of it, they will usually sound really good.
I have quieter pres, they also cost me about six times as much. I have better compressors, and EQ's, yet this little green box gets a lot of use around here.
By the way I have a VC3Q, the predecessor to the MQ3. The only difference is that the MQ3 is supposed to have a better pre.
