Does anyone here make hip-hop and rap beats with an MPC? What brand do you have?

I'm currently looking particular at the Akai MPC1000. I'm new to this MPC thing. What's a good MPC to start out with?

Depends on what you're looking to do!

I have a 2500 that is more than enough, but I got it for a good price. The 1000 is an excellent and affordable machine that is solid enough to do most of the thing us enthusiasts need! If you can afford the 2500 (Shop around and you can get one from $1,200 - $1,700) Don't worry about looking for one that is maxed out with Ram Expansion, cd-rom, etc....You can cop and install those on your own and save loot! But it is difficult if you are unfamiliar with MPC's. I had messed around with the 2000xl back in the day and I was still lost.
I suggest the 1000 to start off with and once you get comfortable, upgrade if necessary!

I was wondering; is programming in an MPC similar to programming in a keyboard workstation? I used to do all my beats in my keyboard back a few years before I got into computer recording.

imo mpc programming is the best but i prefer my ensoniq eps sampler to the mpc series i like the options in sample rates.

You can find 2000xl's on ebay for under a grand easy. I've been using my 2000xl for a while and I don't think I'll ever part with it. I tried the 1000 and it's got a lot of new tech stuff like the flash and usb, and I know the newer mp's got the chop shop and a the capacity for a bazillion sounds. It's more preference than anything. I'd recommend searching ebay for a used 2000xl or 1000.

In my opinion, there are alot of similarities in programming MPC's and some workstations. The MPC would probably have more functions, but the same concept. Like kno1 said, and this almost relates to everything as far as choices, it boils down to preference and what you are trying to do. I rather have more than not enough! MPC is a great choice as a sequencer, and a hell of a sampler, but many find other sequencers more user friendly. But again, that stems from what they are most comfortable with. (People tend to lean toward programs that they started on because of familiarity, but it is good to go outside the box every so often.)

I don't know a whole lot about the 500, but most people I know that have one uses it for its portability. If you travel or find yourself in places outside of your work studio, it may be of some use. Other than that, I say save your money and get the 1000 as a minimum for studio use.

I have used the 2000xl and the 4000 both of those are great machines, just depends on your funds on which you could go with.

What does a ghetto trip have to do with it? If you are into your craft and care enough about what equipment you want and you have the "know-how" to save for it, then cop it. I actually call it "Ghetto Discipline".......
I don't think you can floss too much in a car for 2000 euros, that's still like $1,500 $1,700 US right? Sounds like a bucket 'bro!
Stop selling M&M's to 5 year olds and you might can afford it!
