can someone give me a suggestion on how to hook up my mpc2000xl, trinity rack, jv2080 & mo phat to my computer where i can use it as a hard disk recorder. im pretty sure i will need a mixer which i was considering mackie or alesis. is there any preference and how many channels would be needed. im only using my set up to do tracks and no vocals. any help would be greatly appreciated.

thanks

You need two things Software like Audio Pro and USB MIDISport to transfer midi sigmals to your computer.

if you're just gonna sequence your beats on the mpc then buy a mixer and an audio card with as many ins and outs as you like and plug all your gear into the mixer. then run the main outs and/or the aux outs from your mixer into the sound card ins to record your music. once its on the cpu add your vocals and or whatever and send them to the audio cards outs then into the mixer and mixdown to cpu. then burn to harddrive or cd after tweaking to your liking. it works for me. since you're sequencing everything on the mpc don't worry about a midi interface unless you want to trigger the mpc to play when you hit record on the cpu. as far as inputs on a mixer go count your out puts and consider if you want to plug in anything else. if you use only the mani outs you need at least 8 channels.

peace!!

If you are tracking into the computer, you'll need the MIDI interface (even if you sequenced the song onthe MPC.

You will probably want to purchase a sound card with at least 8 INS/OUTS (especially if you have the 8 OUTS on the MPC.

You should email our member XELFISH. he use to have a similisr set-up. ;)

yup......

damn near same. I got MPC 3000, Triton, JV-2080 and Proteus 2000, but I go into the Mackie d8b and I dont know any otha route ta go otha den into a mixer (not to familiar wit computer connections). I would listen to wha Spin has ta say if you want to go the computer recording way.

-let me get this straight...you have an MPC,Trinity rack,jv2080, and a mo' phatt ...where is your keyboard controller? and how have you been listening to your beats if you don't have a mixer?

-and if your sequencing using your mpc, the only midi interface you may need is a midi patchbay...hell you might be able to get by just by daisy-chaining you sound modules to the mpc

-you can do the sound card thing if you want...but ssince it seem like you got money...i would get a mixer and a hd24 for hard disk recording (24 tracks) plus you can ftp the tracks to your computer for editing

now if you record to the computer you want midi connected, so when u hit play or record etc on your recording program...to modules i'll play back

Thanks for all of the suggestions so far, sorry im just getting a chance to respond, i was at the derby in louisville all weekend. the question was how am i getting to listent to anything now, IM NOT & that the problem! i just basically been getting the mpc down while i purchased everything else. now i have everything that i want for now im just basically trying to get info on what i need to purchase to get everything hooked up correctly bec money is an object and i would just rather buy everything i need correctly the first time and not waste any money.

thanks for the suggetions i guess my final question on this issue would be with the equipment i have now

1. how many channels do i need on a mixer(i was looking at the the mackie 1202,1402 or 1602vlz pro)?

2. how many in/outs do i need on my soundcard?

thanks
