does anyone out there know how much it costs to upgrade my standard mpc 2000xl so that the digital in/out ports are available?

im hoping its not too expensive.

you cant sample records, or cd's without it right?

cheers

that's a great way to sample if ya have a cd player with digi outs... i did one for a 3000 long time ago cant remember how much the board cost but it wasn't much... and took like 15 minutes to do open to close...

www.mpcstuff.com

They sell it for $250.

I don't think it's really that necessary unless you have the interface to run it thru. And even then i still wouldn't drop $250 for it. I'd rater buy some room treatment or some outboard gear or something. I would only get it to utilize the 8 outs.

It's very possible and more common to use the 1/4 " ins to sample.

For a cd player, run 1/4 " cables from the record in to the headphone jack. The same thing can be done thru your pc. You would have to have a cable adapter to combine two 1/4" cables into a single 1/4" or 1/8" plug. Like this one:

Or a cable like this:

. You might also need an adapter to make the 1/4" an 1/8".

For sampling records you would have to run a turntable thru a mixer with a ground terminal then out the mixer to your mpc record in.

With the right cables and adapters you can plug anything ,into your mpc, with a headphone out or an rca out in the back. TV, radio, dvd player, pc, ipod, xbox360, wii, ps3.

Hope this was some help
What's your setup like?

does anyone have any idea how to actually sample an ipod? i have a few things ive collected over the years that i wont be able to find again, and wouldnt mind sampling them too.

if ya cant hear the difference in the use of a digi input vs taking one from the earphone jack... well what can i say??? deafness runs in your family???

im looking for a cost efficient alternative for the time being until i can afford the expansion board.

Just buy the cable in that picture and ask the radio shack guy for an 1/4" to 1/8" headphone adapter. Plug the 2 cords into the record in and the other end with the single jack and the phones adapter into your ipod. Press shift and sample on the mpc and press play on the ipod and record on the mpc function keys. The expansion board isn't necessary to sample, but the digital ins help the quality.
