Haven't played with one but I haven't seen anything that it does to make me want to fork over my cash for it when I already have a 1000.

So for what you're doing, you don't think it is worth the upgrade? Or do you think it is just overrated? I know that some equip comes with more knobs and extras that most won't even use. I take it this is one of them!

after doing research upon more research it's my conclusion that the best mpc out right now is the mpc1000 due to it's upgradability meaning: the os versions that they come out with enable the little machine to be the equivalent of the bigger machines via software u follow? imo the mpc1000 is the best buy and is the one i will be purchasing if i can get back into my mode and start makin some decent beats again...hope that helps ya

8 outs , 4 midi outs compared to 4 outs ,two midi outs is enough for me to get 2500...I have a 3000..wich has 4 midi outs.Ive considered getting the 4000....I like some features the 3000 doesnt have but then the 3000 is simple

Well, I am minutes away from copping the 1000. I was trying to get more reviews, but oh well. I need to start small anyway and I don't need 8 outs and 4 midi outs if that is the major difference, but I'm sure there are more. I just need a decent sampler/sequencer, I'm sure I won't demand much more than it can handle. But Will, and whoever else has it, i'll be hitting you up for guidance!

Thanks Fellas!

are you sure the 8 outs isnt a big enough benefit..or the 4 midi outs?

You know what?
Nah, i ain't sure. That is why I held the deal off a bit to re evaluate if it would be smart at this time. I read the pros and cons on both. I sure wish I can cop them both because I like what the 1000 does (And I am often flying, so the size is perfect!) That is what attracted me to it at first!
But I like the 2500xl for the crib!
I guess I'll pray about it!

I've got an MPC1000 w/the 128 meg memory expansion and a 40 gig hard drive inside.

I've had it since the spring and feel like I haven't even scratched the surface of what it can do.

If some motherfucker stole it I would buy the same thing in a heartbeat. It's my best musical purchase in the last five years.

.

Yeah I've upgraded mine with the 128 memory and and 80 gig 7200 rpm HD. Plus they got the OS over at MPC forums that gives you just about everything the 2500 can do. I haven't found a need to even put it on the machine the 4 extra outs wouldn't matter to me netiher would the MIDI since I plug it up to a 8x8 midisport. All I saying is if you got a cpu running as a daw with the 1000 all the extra bells and whistles ( there aren't many) that the 2500 has IMHO amount to squat. Now if you're gonna run the MPC as your main sequencer without a cpu I'd rethink my options and look at a 2500,

I have friends who currently own most mpcs...mpc60,mpc3000,mpc4000....
they all have there own characteristics.
I mention4 midi outs becuase it allows you to hook up more synths and samplers in wich the mpc sequencer will trigger.
The 4 midi outs are labeled by letter A,B,C,D.
My set-up
A. goes to the motif rack
B. goes to my jp8000 wich is also my midi controller
c.Is my yamaha tx81z (used for talkbox)
d.used to go to my EMU e4XT.....but hopefully soon an SE1 or ATC
sure you can daisy chain the synths with less midi outs but this makes things more simple and If I become a synth whore like some friends the xtra outs will definatley prove valuable.
AS far as the 8 outs
Lets say you have your mpc and a fantomx....of course you would be sequencing the fantom sounds using the mpc and triggering the internal samples on your mpcs including drums
So...
Track
1-Hi HAT
2.KICK DRUM
3.SNARE
4.CYMBAL
5.SHAKER
6. SAMPLE1
7.Sample 2
8.sAMPLE 3
AND THATS IT MORE OR LESS..NOW CONTINUE YOUR TRACK COUNT WITH MIDI
9.rhodes piano
10.synth bass
11.mute gUITAR
12.sTRINGS
13. LEAD SYNTH
AND MAYBE MORE OR LESS
SO YOU HAVE A HEATROCK WITH 13 TRACKS AND YOU WANNA RECORD IT IN YOUR DIGITAL RECORDER OR COMPUTER.....THE SONG IS 4 MINUTES LONG
LETS SAY ON YOUR DIGITAL RECORDER YOU HAVE 16 INPUTS...AND YOUR COMPUTER BREAKOUT HAS THE SAME...ASSIGN ALL YOUR TRACKS TO ITS OWN OUTPUT AND RUN IT INTO BRAEKOUT BOX OR RECORDER...PRESS RECORD AND 4 MINUTES LATER YOUR SONGS RECORDED
WITH 4 OUTS ITS GONNA TAKE YOU AT LEAST TWICE AS LONG DEPENDING ON TRACK COUNT.....TOO SOME THEY HAVE NP PROBLEM DOING MULTIPLE PASSES TO RECORD...BUT ITS LEAST EFFICIENT......ALSO iN MY OPINION THE 1000 SOUNDS CRYSTAL CLEAR....WICH AINT BAD..IF THATS WHAT YOU LIKE

'MMC' means 'midi machine control' and the MPC1000 has that.

Between midi clock and midi time code I'd pick midi clock any day of the week, especially if you're just syncing a computer and an MPC. Midi clock is just as tight and a whole lot easier to work with.

.

im so lost right now... but i think ill go ahead and bookmark this thread so that when i start shopping for a mpc i got a referance point :)

yo in case you haven't peeped. i sale gear and i'm pretty much a gear slut. if i was you i'd cop the 2500. hell i want the 2500... i can go into all that xpandsion and yadda but said and done the 2500 has it from all points. too manyy times a customer will short themselves and be right back in 3-6 monthes buying piece b cuz they shorted themselves.

and if you wanna cop either one thru me just give me a holla...

what if you syncing to tape?..I guess it depends what you are doing.i just like to have the option..like when I bring my mpc and keyboards to the studio and they have 2" tape.I just mentioned differences and I wasnt aware that the 1000 had mmc being I saw a comparison chart..and it said it didnt.I do know of people who bought a 1000 and later sold to get 4000....I personally would rate in order... 4000,3000,2500,mpc60,2000xl,1000,2000

Actually with the unofficial os update the 1000 does mtc also. :p

yeah what about smpte?..but to me i use mtc most the time anyways, but the 1000 doesnt feel like its built to last,I do think for it price its a benefit being small so you can carry it almost anywhere..not that any of the mpc are super huge like luggage.I also think the sounds are sterile on the 1000.....but not that thats a big deal..there are ways around that....but there aint no way around 4 outs....and only 2 midi outs, and there will never be an upgrade on that and to me thats worth alot...example if they did make the machine to accept that expansion...you probably looking at about $300 for eight outs, and same for 4 midi.
all in all I think its an easy decision..if you on a budget or just wanna fool around and have no intentions of sticking with making beats get the 1000...if budget aint a issue and you serious about making beats its between the 4000,and 2500......but if a gang of features aint in your interest and you like simplicity get a used 3000 better sounding converters 8 outs and 4 midi outs
I think we have grown to think that more features is always better....If they never made an mpc I would be using the ASR-10
