mp3 vs. mp3pro?? whats the difference??

ya i just got music match jukebox, and there are two types of mp3 encoding: mp3 and mp3pro. i have heard of mp3pro before, but i dont know what the difference is. can someone tell me please?
 
Supposed to be a better rate of compression, more of the original sound in the same bit rate. Does this make sense? MP3Pro was a feature with cool edit pro 2.0. I used it often but some players from what I understand dont read mp3pro or the file doesnt sound good if it plays at all. Just my 02 cents.
